Role Overview: The Billing Specialist is a hybrid, end-to-end role that merges technical Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) expertise with high-touch client advocacy. This role is responsible for the entire lifecycle of a claim—from eligibility and submission to aggressive denial management—while serving as the primary relationship manager for behavioral health practices. The most successful candidate will have good experience in our Core Responsibilities, knowledge of the softwares we support, and a firm grasp of our Ground Rules.
Core Responsibilities 1. Revenue Cycle Management Maintain timely revenue cycle management for services provided by mental health practitioners. Review and release claims to payers regularly, ensuring all billing complies with internal and payer policies and procedures.
Ensure accurate payment for services provided by researching and resolving all payment discrepancies. Identify trends and root causes related to inaccurate payments and escalate as appropriate. Resolve all claim rejections in a timely manner to guarantee submission within the timely filing requirements of the payers.
Review and fix claim denials; fix and submit corrected claims as needed. Post payments manually or via ERA as available. 2.
Billing Services Coordination Act as a dedicated advocate for assigned accounts. Respond to all customer requests in a timely manner after the request has been completed, scheduled, or forwarded. Check client benefits and eligibility as requested and update chart.
Coordinate customer needs with the internal team and interface with billing services sub-contractors. Communicate with customers in a timely manner regarding issues found during weekly payment posting, denial/rejection capture, or as requested. Schedule and lead regular account reviews to go through customer audits and invoicing with the customer.
Generate follow-up tasks for the billing services team and submit invoicing on behalf of the customer. 3. Compliance & Professionalism Follow all security policies and procedures set by BreezyBilling, including HIPAA compliance and State of Minnesota requirements regarding Protected Health Information (PHI).
Maintain timely, clear written and verbal communication with colleagues and customers. Be open to learning new skills and ways of improving. Communicate with staff or supervisors if internal or external issues arise that need to be addressed.
Required Skills & Experience Industry Experience 5+ years in healthcare billing. 2+ years in behavioral health billing specifically. Direct billing experience in at least one of the softwares supported by BreezyBilling.
Technical Skills Proficiency with working in multiple electronic health records (EHR) and clearinghouse software.
