About the Role
Liberty Dental Plan is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Overpayment Specialist to join our Claims team. In this role, you will investigate and resolve claim overpayments, manage recovery efforts, analyze payment data, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive positive financial and operational outcomes.

Compensation: $24.50 - $28.00 per hour
What You'll Do
  • Analyze dental claims data to identify and investigate overpayments.
  • Determine the root cause of overpaid claims, including Coordination of Benefits (COB), Third-Party Liability (TPL), duplicate payments, client referrals, and other claim discrepancies.
  • Research insurance coverage and policy information to support recovery efforts.
  • Pursue reimbursement and recovery activities with providers, insurance carriers, and third parties.
  • Manage provider disputes and appeals related to overpayment recoveries.
  • Resolve complex collection issues through research, communication, and collaboration.
  • Partner with teams across Finance, Claims, Member Services, Eligibility, and Account Management to support cost avoidance and COB/TPL initiatives.
  • Assist with departmental projects and operational support as needed.
  • Contribute to process improvements and help establish best practices within a developing function.
What You'll Bring
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2-4 years of experience reviewing medical or dental insurance claims.
  • Experience verifying insurance coverage and understanding payer policies.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word.
  • Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with others.
  • Strong customer service skills and a professional approach to resolving issues.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • Experience in dental insurance.
  • Knowledge of Coordination of Benefits (COB), Third-Party Liability (TPL), cost avoidance, and overpayment recovery processes.
  • Experience working with Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance products.
  • Experience developing or improving workflows, processes, and procedures.

Compensation
In the spirit of pay transparency, the base salary range for this position is $24.50 - $28.00 an hour, not including fringe benefits or potential bonuses. At Liberty, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as geographic location, skills, education, and experience. We are committed to pay equity and also consider the internal equity of our current team members when making final compensation decisions.
Please note that the range listed represents the full base salary range for this role. Typically, offers are not made at the top of the range to allow for future salary growth.
