Job Summary

The Construction Operations Manager will oversee and manage all aspects of construction operations for a heavy civil and paving contractor supporting projects across Southeast Alaska. This role requires strong leadership in coordinating multiple concurrent projects while working closely with project managers, superintendents, and field leadership to overcome the unique challenges of remote construction, including adverse weather conditions, limited access, and complex logistics.
This position plays a critical leadership role in ensuring consistent communication across 8โ€“10 active projects, supporting project teams in problem-solving, maintaining safety excellence, ensuring contract compliance, and delivering high-quality work on time and within budget. The Operations Manager serves as a key link between field execution and company leadership.

Main Responsibilities

Project Oversight & Coordination

  • Oversee and support 8โ€“10 large, multi-disciplinary heavy civil projects simultaneously.
  • Maintain consistent communication with project managers and superintendents to resolve challenges.
  • Provide leadership to align schedules, resources, costs, and company priorities.
  • Travel regularly throughout Southeast Alaska to support field teams.
  • Conflict resolution with project owners

Logistics & Remote Operations

  • Lead remote logistics planning including mobilization of crews, equipment, and materials.
  • Coordinate marine transportation and barging operations.
  • Mitigate challenges related to weather, tides, and seasonal constraints.

Safety Leadership

  • Champion a safety-first culture for crews and the public.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA/MSHA and company policies.
  • Support fatigue management during long workdays in compressed construction seasons.
  • Minimize risks associated with remote and high-demand environments.

Contract & Specification Compliance

  • Review contracts, plans, and specifications to ensure compliance.
  • Support teams in interpreting requirements and managing risk.
  • Assist in change orders and claims management.

Quality Control & Technical Expertise

  • Oversee quality control for aggregate production and asphalt paving.
  • Ensure compliance with testing standards and project specs.
  • Improve field quality processes continuously.

Financial & Operational Performance

  • Track budgets, schedules, and production targets.
  • Improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Conduct risk assessments.

Leadership & Team Development

  • Mentor project managers and superintendents.

Qualifications
  • 10+ years experience in heavy civil construction.
