Job description

Position Title: Remote Plant Operator (RPO) Location: Pittsburgh International Airport Microgrid, Pittsburgh, PA
Company Summary
Cordia Energy Services (CES) business model addresses emerging needs for operations and maintenance in the power and energy market including:
  • Remote operations and maintenance of power generation and CHP assets with expertise and experience in distributed generation.
  • Onsite routine maintenance of power generations assets and support equipment
  • Onsite oversight and maintenance of major maintenance evolutions and equipment upgrades

Position Summary
Candidate will gain broad experience as part of a team of professional remote operations personnel and will be responsible for maintaining a high level of ownership and attention to detail in the operation and control of assets under CES responsibility. This position will require effective coordination between various CES personnel in the field and outside entities to ensure high reliability of assets controlled through the Remote Operations Center.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Under direction of Lead Remote Operator (LRO) performs the following:
  • Coordinate unit availability, outage schedules, unit startup and shutdown times, and communicate all necessary information to CES operations team, transmission operators and energy management agency.
  • Coordinate unit start up and shutdown evolutions as directed by energy management agency or CES operations team.
  • Monitor and analyze operating data. Follow standard operating procedures and make appropriate notifications on abnormal engine and plant conditions.
  • Alert CES operations team of abnormal conditions at the facilities and dispatch on call technicians to the site as needed.
  • Follow established safety and operating procedures.
  • Communicate with outside entities during troubleshooting evolutions and relay information to CES field technicians to support quick resolution of unit outages
  • Assist with lockout/tagout activities
  • Work rotating 12 hours shifts to support dispatch operations or planned and forced maintenance activities.
  • Maintain accurate event logs and data logs. Generate and submit reports on generation, safety and availability as directed by CES management.
  • Assist in maintenance activities under the guidance of the senior technicians in the field on an as needed basis
  • Perform other shift duties as assigned by CES management

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Good understanding of computer networks and communication devices.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and directions.
  • Commitment to safety and environmental compliance.
  • Strong knowledge in the use of PCs and various software applications such as Excel, Word, MS Outlook, Power Point, etc.
  • Power plant operations experience
  • Ability to work well independently or as an integral team member.
  • Ability to work extended hours on short notice when required.
  • High school diploma

Desired Qualifications:
  • Two years of power plant or CHP experience
  • Jenbacher or other reciprocating engines, HMI, SCADA and DAS operations experience
  • Remote operation of power plant facilities

Physical Requirements/Work Environment:
  • The incumbent will be subject to inside office working conditions, with noise levels in the work area typical of most office environments, and outside environmental conditions, including increased noise levels around operating equipment
  • Ability to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including your own body
  • Ability to perform other physical activities including use of fingers, stooping, crouching, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions
  • Visual acuity requirements include color, depth perception and field of vision necessary to prepare and analyze data and figures, operate a computer terminal, and conduct extensive reading
