About the role:

Key Responsibilities

1. Financial Reporting and Analysis

a. Oversee the preparation and analysis of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

b. Conduct detailed financial analysis to assess performance, identify trends, and provide insights to management.

c. Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.

d. Support nonprofit accounting functions including fund accounting, restricted fund tracking, and grant-related financial reporting.

2. Month-end and Year-end Close Processes

a. Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

b. Ensure timely and accurate completion of close activities, coordinating with internal teams and external stakeholders as needed.

c. Review and analyze financial data to identify variances and discrepancies, resolving issues promptly.

3. Internal Controls and Compliance

a. Establish and maintain internal control procedures to ensure the integrity of financial data and compliance with regulatory requirements.

b. Conduct periodic reviews and audits to assess compliance with accounting policies, procedures, and standards.

4. Financial Systems and Process Improvement

a. Evaluate existing accounting processes, systems, and workflows to identify opportunities for improvement and optimization.

b. Implement process enhancements, automation initiatives, and best practices to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.

c. Provide training and guidance to finance teams to ensure adherence to best practices and standards.

5. Budgeting and Forecasting Support

a. Assist in the development and management of budgets, forecasts, and financial plans in collaboration with management teams.

b. Provide support for budgeting and forecasting processes, including data gathering, analysis, and presentation preparation.

c. Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and recommend corrective actions to achieve financial targets.

6. Stakeholder Communication and Relationship Management

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree or CPA preferred.
  • Extensive experience with accounting software such as QuickBooks, NetSuite, Sage, PeopleSoft, or Workday
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles and technical accounting standards.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in accounting or finance roles with a focus on financial reporting, reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Experience supporting nonprofit organizations, including fund accounting, grants management, and grant reporting, is preferred.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills, with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet deadlines, and deliver high-quality results in a dynamic environment.
  • Experience in a customer service role / client facing, public accounting, consulting or advisory roles is advantageous.
