Job description

Summary
The Research Services Directorate (RSD) at NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) is currently seeking interested applicants for the position of Chief of Maintenance in the Research Systems Integration Branch (RSIB) (D105). This position leads and directs a team of government and contract technicians in the performance of maintenance and modification activities on multiple NASA aircraft platforms that support airborne research on NASA LaRC Aircraft.

Duties
Help
  • Leads and directs day-to-day activities of civil service and contract maintenance personnel and assigns personnel to aircraft maintenance and modification projects throughout the project life cycle.
  • Develops, implements, and ensures compliance with aircraft maintenance programs, practices, and procedures in accordance with applicable NASA, Federal Aviation Administration, and quality management requirements.
  • Plans, develops, implements, and tracks aircraft maintenance, modification, and integration schedules and communicates status, milestones, and resource requirements to management and project stakeholders.
  • Establishes and tracks training requirements for assigned maintenance personnel to ensure personnel are qualified and prepared to perform assigned aircraft maintenance and modification activities.
  • Maintains and communicates aircraft status and maintenance information to branch leadership, operations management, project managers, and Directorate leadership.
  • Ensures aircraft maintenance spaces, equipment, and facilities are maintained in a safe, clean, organized, and operationally ready condition consistent with applicable policies and procedures.
  • Serves as backup Contracting Officer's Representative for assigned contracts and supports oversight and coordination of contractor performance and maintenance activities.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
To qualify for GS-14, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 level:
  • Leading or directing government and/or contractor personnel performing aircraft maintenance or modification activities and ensuring work complies with applicable maintenance, safety, and technical requirements;
  • Developing, implementing, tracking, and communicating aircraft maintenance, modification, or integration plans and schedules to coordinate personnel, resources, project requirements, and operational priorities;
  • Performing or overseeing maintenance and modification of aircraft systems, such as hydraulic, pneumatic, powerplant, electrical, or avionics systems, across multiple aircraft platforms.
