Job description

INNOVIM is seeking a Software Developer Associate to support NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System (EOSDIS) Evolution and Development 3 (EED-3) contract. INNOVIM’s EED-3 team provides Earth scientists and others access to data from NASA’s Earth Science missions.

Location: Remote, based out of Annapolis, MD with quarterly travel for PI Planning
Clearance: National Agency Clearance with Inquires (NACI) screening
U.S. Citizenship is required

Primary Responsibilities:  

The candidate will work in a fast-paced Agile development environment performing operations, design, development, and testing for the NASA Common Metadata Repository (CMR). As a member of the EED-3 team, the software developer will build and support innovative tools allowing scientists and students alike to discover, transform, update, and improve the quality of earth science data in the pursuit of solving a wide range of environmental and socio-economic issues. This includes supporting the deployment of product updates, identifying production issues and constructing scalable architecture. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Participate in all aspects of the software development lifecycle from user story generation, through design, development, automated testing and operational support 
  • Develop new feature ideas to meet the ever-evolving needs of our end-users 
  • Continually help the team grow by sharing new ideas and industry best practices 
  • Suggest improvements to processes and tools to help the team be more efficient 

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and (Clojure, Node.JS)
  • Large scale API
  • AI/ML bonus, associate level desired
  • Demonstrable knowledge of git 
  • In-depth knowledge of cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) preferred or Azure, or Google Cloud, including networking, serverless services such as Lambda, Queues, and Topics. 
  • Good understanding of caching services such as Redis 
  • Ability to work with containerization and orchestration tools 
  • Strong problem-solving, technical, and leadership skills, the ability to take initiative and proactively debug complex issues 
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams 

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Bachelor’s degree in technical major such as Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical field  
  • 3 years of software development experience 

DESIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCE:  

  • Knowledge of GraphQL, ElasticSearch or other Lucene based search products 
  • Knowledge of AWS Cloudwatch 
  • Experience using the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) methodology 
  • Experience with full life cycle Software design and development experience on large/complex n-tier client/server applications. 
  • AWS Solutions Architect or AWS Developer certifications
