To fulfill this mission, the Society funds cutting-edge research, drives change through advocacy, facilitates professional education, collaborates with MS organizations around the world, and provides programs and services designed to help people with MS and their families move their lives forward. We partner with volunteers to accomplish our work. Staff members engage volunteers through effective and timely communications, facilitating meaningful opportunities, and continually seeking and providing feedback for reciprocal growth and learning.
Job Summary:
The AVP, Response Marketing owns and leads the strategic development and execution of integrated non-digital direct response efforts (Direct Mail, Radio, DRTV, Print) that generate multi-million dollars annually, driving direct donor acquisition, retention, and engagement while strengthening the pipeline across all fundraising channels while leading a team of Response Marketing professionals.

  • Work is primarily performed remotely, however, when possible and necessary, teams meet in person to conduct the business of the organization and build team relationships.

Compensation | Benefits:
The estimated hiring compensation range for this role is $130,000 - $150,000. Final offers will be based on the candidate's geographic location, consider career experience, and may vary from this range due to these and other factors.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Lead the strategy and execution of multi-channel donor marketing programs (renewal, acquisition, stewardship) across non-digital direct response efforts ensuring alignment with strategic goals and donor experience.

  • Manage a multi-million-dollar direct mail budget, optimizing revenue and expense performance to maximize net return and program effectiveness.

  • Drive campaign strategy and creative development, including messaging, copywriting, and art direction, while coordinating production calendars and vendor deliverables.

  • Oversee vendor relationships and performance, including agencies, printers, list brokers, and data partners, ensuring quality, cost-efficiency, and timely execution.

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with digital channel owners, individual giving, corporate engagement, donor experience, and marketing teams to enhance retention, acquisition, and revenue growth.

  • Monitor and analyze campaign performance, using data to optimize results, improve donor engagement, and inform future strategies.

  • Provide strategic reporting and insights to executive leadership, translating results into actionable recommendations.

  • Lead and coach a high-performing virtual team, fostering collaboration, accountability, and professional growth while providing direction and strategic alignment to deliver on Response Marketing objectives.

What We're Looking For:
  • 10+ years of experience in direct marketing strategy and campaign execution, including mail with a strong focus on fundraising and analytics.

  • Proven leadership in managing internal teams and external vendors, with 4+ years overseeing high-performing, often remote, workgroups and agency partners.

  • Expertise in developing and implementing strategic and tactical plans, driving process improvements and operational excellence in complex organizational environments.

  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills, with a track record of cross-functional leadership to achieve fundraising and marketing goals.

  • Extensive experience leveraging customer databases and marketing automation tools, such as Salesforce Marketing Cloud or HubSpot to support data-driven campaign strategies.

  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with a preference for experience in direct response fundraising copywriting and editing.

  • Analytical mindset with problem-solving capabilities, including familiarity with tools like SQL to evaluate campaign performance and inform decision-making.
