Job description

We've made a lot of progress since opening the doors in 1942, but one thing has never changed - our commitment to serve, heal, lead, educate, andinnovate.Webelieve that every award earned, every record broken and every patient helped is because of the dedicated employees who fill our hallways.

At Ochsner, whether you work with patients every day or support those who do, you are making a difference and that matters. Come make a difference at Ochsner Health and discover your future today!

Ochsner Health is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible Transplant Nephrologist to serve as Medical Director of Kidney Transplantation. This is a unique opportunity for a physician leader to step into a high-performing, nationally recognized program and help shape its next phase of growth, innovation, and clinical excellence.

The Ochsner Transplant Institute is the largest and most comprehensive transplant program in the Gulf South, and its kidney transplant program has built a strong national reputation for quality, collaboration, and forward-thinking care delivery. As a leader in robotic transplantation, including both donor nephrectomy and kidney transplantation, the program continues to push the boundaries of what is possible in transplant surgery. With a solid foundation, growing volume, and strong institutional support, the program is well-positioned for continued expansion in both scale and complexity.

The Medical Director will lead and oversee a team of four transplant nephrologists while working in close partnership with a highly experienced surgical team of ten transplant surgeons. Supported by a dedicated advanced practice provider team and a 24/7 inpatient coverage model, the program offers a strong and collaborative infrastructure. The strength of the team and organization creates a unique environment where the next leader can focus not only on maintaining excellence, but on identifying and pursuing meaningful opportunities for growth. This includes expanding clinical volume, enhancing access, advancing innovation in care delivery, and continuing to elevate outcomes and patient experience.

This role is designed for a physician who is ready to broaden their leadership impact. The Medical Director will partner closely with surgical leadership and system stakeholders to drive strategic direction, support program development, and mentor the next generation of transplant providers. There is significant opportunity to shape team structure, optimize operations, and build upon an already strong regional and national presence.

The system offers the scale, resources, and stability to support programmatic growth, along with a strong academic environment and ongoing clinical research activity.

New Orleans offers a vibrant and culturally rich environment with a unique blend of history, community, and energy. For physicians seeking both professional growth and a dynamic place to live, it provides an exceptional balance. Ochsner Health is also advancing its academic mission with the planned opening of a new medical school, creating future opportunities for academic appointments, teaching, and mentorship.
