This position is fully remote within the contiguous United States and will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams on complex nuclear design projects.

Job Summary:
The Senior Mechanical Engineer will perform mechanical engineering assignments involving system and detailed component design for NSSS systems. This role will review and evaluate plant systems to ensure design, performance, inspection, and testing requirements are met in accordance with applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulatory requirements.
The engineer will prepare, check, and review engineering reports, specifications, drawings, calculations, and other design documentation. This position will also serve as a technical lead for NSSS components and systems, provide technical guidance to less experienced engineers, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop innovative design solutions.

Job Duties:
  • Perform mechanical engineering assignments related to NSSS systems and detailed component design.
  • Review and evaluate plant systems to ensure design, performance, inspection, and testing requirements are defined and satisfied.
  • Prepare, check, and review engineering specifications, drawings, calculations, reports, and other technical documentation.
  • Apply knowledge of applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulations to complex engineering projects.
  • Support the design and development of NSSS components such as valves, CRDMs, pressurizer heaters, and related equipment.
  • Serve as a technical lead for vendor design activities involving NSSS components, including design, manufacturing, and assembly.
  • Collaborate extensively with design partners and internal stakeholders to ensure system designs meet technical and regulatory requirements.
  • Interpret project scope and requirements and develop design alternatives when necessary.
  • Serve as a test program sponsor for testing activities within areas of technical expertise.
  • Interface with licensing teams in support of domestic and international regulatory efforts.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less experienced engineering staff.
  • Collaborate with engineers across multiple disciplines to coordinate design activities and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Plan, organize, and execute complex engineering assignments supporting licensing and project requirements.
  • Develop and maintain required training qualifications.
  • Communicate effectively through strong written and verbal communication.
  • Promote a strong safety and quality culture throughout engineering activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant nuclear industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and their practical application.
  • Extensive experience with NSSS components and systems.
  • Strong understanding of applicable nuclear industry codes, standards, and regulations.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in Mechanical or Nuclear Engineering is preferred but not required.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and project planning abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and exercise sound engineering judgment on complex assignments.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Experience providing technical direction, mentoring, or leadership to other engineers is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of quality assurance requirements, including 10 CFR 50 Appendix B, 10 CFR 21, and ASME NQA-1.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements and manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
