What is a remote mergers and acquisitions internship?

A Remote Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) Internship is a temporary, often part-time position where interns assist companies or investment firms with tasks related to buying, selling, or merging businesses, all while working remotely. Interns typically support deal analysis, conduct market research, prepare presentations, and help with due diligence documentation. This internship provides valuable exposure to the M&A process, financial modeling, and industry trends, and is ideal for students or recent graduates interested in finance or corporate strategy.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote mergers and acquisitions intern?

To excel as a Remote Mergers and Acquisitions Intern, you need strong analytical abilities, financial modeling skills, and a foundational understanding of corporate finance or accounting, often supported by coursework or a related degree. Familiarity with Excel, PowerPoint, and data analysis platforms, as well as virtual collaboration tools like Zoom or Slack, is typically required. Strong communication, attention to detail, and time management distinguish top candidates in this remote role. These competencies ensure accurate financial analysis, effective teamwork, and successful execution of complex M&A projects in a virtual environment.

Remote M&A interns often face challenges such as limited in-person mentorship, difficulty accessing confidential documents securely, and coordinating with team members across different time zones. Remote M&A Partner – Mergers & Acquisitions
Firm Overview

A prominent law firm is seeking an experienced M&A Attorney with 8+ years to join its highly active Corporate Practice Group.

The firm advises privately held middle-market and lower-middle-market companies in complex transactions throughout the United States and internationally. Its clients include private equity sponsors, founder-owned and family-owned businesses, strategic acquirers, portfolio companies, family offices, and private investors.

Job Summary

The firm is seeking an accomplished M&A Partner, Counsel, or senior transactional attorney with substantial experience leading private-company mergers and acquisitions.

The ideal candidate will be able to independently manage sophisticated transactions from initial structuring through closing, negotiate principal deal documents, supervise transaction teams, and work directly with clients and their other professional advisors.

This is a remote opportunity offering sophisticated transactional work, substantial client responsibility, and a more attractive billing expectation than many larger firms.
Responsibilities and Duties
  1. Leading sophisticated private-company mergers and acquisitions
  2. Representing buyers, sellers, private equity sponsors, portfolio companies, founders, and strategic acquirers
  3. Handling private equity, strategic M&A, leveraged buyout, management buyout, and other corporate transactions
  4. Drafting and negotiating purchase agreements, merger agreements, disclosure schedules, and ancillary transaction documents
  5. Managing transactions from initial structuring and due diligence through signing and closing
  6. Advising clients regarding transaction structure, negotiation strategy, and risk allocation
  7. Supervising associates and coordinating transaction teams
  8. Maintaining direct communication with clients, opposing counsel, investment bankers, accountants, and other transaction advisors
  9. Working collaboratively with attorneys across complementary practice areas to efficiently address issues arising during transactions
  10. Participating in the continued development and growth of the firm's Corporate and M&A practice

The position offers:

  • Remote work
  • Approximately 1,700 billable hours
  • Sophisticated middle-market M&A matters
  • Significant direct client responsibility
  • Partner-level autonomy
  • Strong internal transactional support
  • Opportunity to develop and expand an existing practice
  • A collaborative and practical approach to getting deals completed efficiently and on favorable terms

Requirements

  • Significant experience handling sophisticated private-company M&A transactions
  • Strong experience independently leading and closing transactions
  • Excellent drafting and negotiation skills
  • Experience managing associates and deal teams
  • Strong client-management and communication skills
  • Excellent academic and professional credentials
  • Admission and good standing in an applicable U.S. jurisdiction

Experience representing private equity sponsors, founder-owned companies, strategic buyers and sellers, or other middle-market transaction participants is particularly attractive.

Candidates with established client relationships or a portable practice will receive strong consideration. The firm also has a substantial existing transactional platform that can support the right lateral partner.
