The Mechanical Engineer will work on project teams to create world class designs for new projects, alterations, and renovations on a variety of HVAC and plumbing projects primarily for aviation, government, and military facilities. The Mechanical Engineer will work with the project team throughout the design and construction process, developing HVAC and plumbing designs according to budget constraints, design factors, or client needs.
 
Essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Research and compile project related data as required by the project managers.
  • Applies strong knowledge of commonly used mechanical engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the mechanical engineering services industry.
  • Design HVAC and plumbing components for project needs and requirements that are set forth by the project managers.
  • Design HVAC and plumbing systems for projects from the conceptual phase through design completion, covering various HVAC and plumbing systems: air-side/duct design, chilled and condenser water, heating hot water, steam, HVAC controls, domestic water, sanitary waste and vent and compressed gases.
  • Lead development of design documents and update drawings provided by senior engineers to verify corrections are made within Revit and other CAD related software.
  • Compiles information for client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for design projects.
  • Demonstrates understanding of, and effectively applies, federal design standards such as the Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC) and Unified Facilities Guide Specifications (UFGS) in project planning and design.
  • Lead and perform HVAC load calculation and energy modeling calculations and life cycle cost analyses (LCCA) with IES-VE or similar software (Trane Trace 700, Trane Trace 3D Plus, etc).
  • Modify and review production drawings for a variety of projects primarily focusing on aviation, government, and military facilities but also including power plants, industrial, life science, and commercial facilities.
  • Performs field inspections, measurements or calculations for public and private clients.
  • Complies with all policies and standards.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an ABET-accredited program, and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience required.Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred. OR
  • Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an ABET accredited program and successful completion of Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and 3 years of mechanical engineering experience. Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred. OR
  • Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 2 years of mechanical engineering experience required. Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred.
  • 4 years of Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing and HVAC experience preferred.
  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization, and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.
  • Strong operating knowledge of and experience using Revit is preferred. AutoCAD and MicroStation experience is a plus.
  • Strong operating knowledge of and experience with load calculations and energy modeling in IES-VE, Trane Trace 700, or Trane Trace 3D Plus is preferred. Other software such as Carrier HAP, Energy Pro, etc. may be considered.
  • Experience with AFT Fathom, Elite Ductsize, or Bently AutoPIPE is a plus.
  • Strong computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite) in writing of design reports, design calculations, and presentations.
  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License is preferred, Engineer in Training (EIT) Certification may be considered.
