To thrive as a Remote Mapping Designer, you need a solid background in geographic information systems (GIS), cartography, and spatial data analysis, often supported by a degree in geography, geospatial sciences, or a related field. Familiarity with technical tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, and remote sensing software, as well as certifications like GISP, is typically required. GIS Technicians typically handle data management and support GIS operations, often working on-site. Understanding these differences helps in choosing the right career path or job opportunity.

What is a Remote Mapping Designer?

A Remote Mapping Designer is a professional who creates, updates, and maintains digital maps and geospatial data from a remote location. They use specialized software to interpret data from various sources such as satellite imagery, GPS, and surveys to produce accurate maps for different industries like urban planning, logistics, or environmental monitoring. The role often involves collaborating with teams virtually and requires strong skills in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and spatial analysis. Remote Mapping Designers play a crucial role in helping organizations make data-driven decisions related to location and geography.

How does a Remote Mapping Designer typically collaborate with other team members across different locations?

Remote Mapping Designers often work closely with GIS analysts, project managers, and software developers using collaborative tools such as cloud-based mapping platforms, video conferencing, and shared project management systems. Regular virtual meetings and clear communication are essential to ensure alignment on project goals, map specifications, and deadlines. Since team members may be spread across multiple time zones, flexibility and proactive status updates are important for maintaining workflow and addressing challenges efficiently.

Architect the Ultimate Developer Experience as our Next Developer Advocate!

Can you architect the ultimate developer experience? Trimble is searching for a strategic Developer Advocate to own the entire vision, content, and experience for our first-ever annual Developer Conference. You will catalyze innovation within our partner network, acting as the essential link connecting our core product teams with the external developer community to transform external partners into highly productive marketplace contributors.

About Us: Trimble is an industrial technology company transforming the way the world works by delivering solutions that enable our customers to thrive. We create technologies that connect the digital and physical worlds, helping our customers increase productivity, quality, safety, and sustainability. From purpose-built products to enterprise-level solutions, our technology empowers professionals in construction, geospatial, government, transportation, and more. Trimble is empowering stakeholders through planning, design, construction and the entire asset lifecycle. The company's innovative and connected ecosystem of solutions improves coordination and collaboration between teams, phases and processes. Trimble Field Systems develops hardware, software and services that connect the site to the office for key industries around the world, including civil construction, surveying, mapping, automotive, marine, utilities and more.

What Makes This Role Great:

Key Exciting Responsibilities:

Fully own the end-to-end strategy, vision, and content pipeline for the 2026 unified Developer Conference, including keynotes, technical deep-dives, and hands-on labs.

Act as the central organizational liaison across AECO and Field Systems product teams to coordinate developer resources, extensibility planning, and technical content.

Systematically gather external developer feedback and pain points to influence product management, engineering, and the overall developer experience.

Design commercial enablement tracks and review software licensing models to accelerate partner success and revenue growth within the Trimble Marketplace.

Build high-quality technical content, including blogs, tutorials, and code samples, while evangelizing Trimble technologies at external industry events and developer challenges.

Essential Skills & Experience:

3+ years of experience in Software Engineering, Developer Relations (DevRel), Technical Program Management, or a platform adoption role.

Proven experience defining the vision and managing the entire content pipeline for large-scale developer conferences with over 200 attendees.

Deep understanding of the developer lifecycle, SDKs/APIs, App Marketplaces, and Independent Software Vendor (ISV) business models.

Exceptional communication skills with a track record of presenting complex technical topics to large audiences and influencing executive stakeholders.

Demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects across multiple, geographically dispersed industrial software product lines.

Bonus Points For:

Prior experience working within the architecture, engineering, construction (AEC) or geospatial field systems domains.

Familiarity with Product-Led Growth (PLG) strategies or tracking developer metrics using tools like Amplitude and website analytics.

Logistics:

Location: Westminster, CO or Lake Oswego, OR (Hybrid - 4 days onsite, 1 day remote)

Travel Requirement: 10%
