Job description

Position Overview

We are seeking a Mechanisms Engineer to support the design, development, and optimization of precision mechanical systems for advanced aerospace applications. This role will contribute to both new product development and ongoing improvements, ensuring successful delivery of hardware from concept through integration and testing.

The ideal candidate is hands-on, innovative, and thrives in a fast-paced environment, collaborating cross-functionally to bring complex mechanical systems from design to deployment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and mechanisms, including performing analysis and trade studies to optimize performance, efficiency, and manufacturability
  • Execute detailed engineering design work in accordance with established standards, procedures, and program requirements
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support system integration, assembly, and testing activities
  • Partner with external vendors by defining requirements, reviewing designs, and tracking development progress
  • Develop and maintain mechanical documentation, including requirements, drawings, interface definitions, and test procedures
  • Define and validate mechanical interfaces between subsystems and components
  • Support qualification testing (e.g., vibration, thermal, environmental) and evaluate results
  • Troubleshoot hardware issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions
  • Present technical findings and design updates during reviews with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Identify and implement process improvements, new technologies, or innovative design approaches

Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field

Experience:

A minimum of 3 years of experience in mechanical design and analysis, preferably involving complex systems or hardware development

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • Additional experience in aerospace, space systems, or other high-performance environments
  • Familiarity with multidisciplinary systems involving electrical or software components
  • Experience supporting hardware through full lifecycle (design to testing and delivery)

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams
  • Proven problem-solving mindset and sense of ownership
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Meticulous attention to detail to ensure accuracy of all documentation and deliverables
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Technology Stack:

  • CAD Tools: Experience with industry-standard 3D modeling software (e.g., SolidWorks, Creo, NX, or similar)
  • Analysis Tools: Familiarity with engineering analysis methods (e.g., FEA)
  • Data/Documentation Systems: Experience with PLM/PDM systems
  • General Tools: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project)

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work in both office and laboratory environments
  • Capable of working hands-on with hardware, test setups, and precision instruments
  • Ability to lift and move up to 25 lbs as needed
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working on a computer or performing hands-on tasks
  • Availability for occasional extended hours to support critical project milestones

This job description may not be inclusive to the duties and responsibilities listed. Additional tasks may be assigned to the employee from time to time or the scope of the job may change as needed by business demands.
