What is a Remote Life Science Internship?

A Remote Life Science Internship is a work experience opportunity in the fields of biology, biotechnology, pharmacology, or related life sciences that is completed virtually rather than in a physical office or laboratory. Interns typically work from home and connect with supervisors and colleagues via online platforms. Tasks may include data analysis, literature research, writing reports, or assisting with virtual experiments. This arrangement allows students and recent graduates to gain practical experience and skills relevant to life sciences careers, regardless of their geographic location.

What are some common challenges faced during a remote life science internship and how can I overcome them?

A common challenge in a remote life science internship is limited hands-on laboratory experience, since much of the work is conducted virtually. To overcome this, interns should proactively engage with digital simulations, data analysis projects, and virtual lab meetings to build relevant skills. Effective communication is also key—regularly checking in with mentors and collaborating with team members helps bridge the gap created by physical distance. Staying organized and setting clear goals can further enhance productivity and learning throughout the internship.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Life Science Intern, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Life Science Intern, you need a foundational understanding of biological sciences, research methodologies, and data analysis, typically supported by enrollment in or completion of a relevant degree program. Familiarity with digital collaboration platforms, statistical software (such as R or SPSS), and literature databases is often expected. Strong communication, self-motivation, and time management skills help interns excel in a remote environment. These abilities enable effective contribution to research projects, ensure productivity without direct supervision, and facilitate collaboration with global teams.

Job description

Our Team
Dandelion Health was founded in 2020 by experts in health tech, hospital systems, academia, and clinical AI. We are building the world's largest AI training and clinical development platform. Today, we pride ourselves on our ability to make data access as easy as possible for AI developers, pharma, and medical devices, while raising the bar for patient safety and data quality. Tomorrow, we will be the place where any healthcare organization can go to build a responsible clinical AI product. Our culture is all about learning from data and improving, so we can help our clients improve health through AI. Meet the rest of our team here.
Our Data
We partner with health systems to safely and ethically make their de-identified patient data available to AI developers. Currently, the data is acquired from Sharp HealthCare, Sanford Health, and Texas Health Resources - with two additional U.S. health systems joining soon.
We have clinical data dating back to July 1, 2016. This data represents over 10 million patients and includes but is not limited to:
  • Structured data (e.g., 100% of the EMR, including some claims)
  • Unstructured text (e.g., clinical notes, radiology reports)
  • Images (e.g., DICOM, pathology)
  • Video
  • Waveforms
  • Continuous streaming monitoring data

Your Role
You are an ambitious and experienced Senior Product Manager.
As Senior Product Manager - Life Sciences, you will be responsible for defining and executing the product strategy for Dandelion's life science data products. This role is hands-on and strategy-driven, focused on translating market and customer insights into a clear product vision, roadmap, and shipped outcomes.
You will lead product discovery and strategy efforts across Dandelion's life science offerings - identifying high-leverage problems to solve, evaluating opportunities, and making prioritization decisions that balance customer needs, platform scalability, and long-term business impact.
You will work closely with commercial, engineering, and data science partners to define product requirements, shape technical approaches, and drive execution from concept through launch. Your focus will be on building scalable, repeatable data products rather than bespoke customer solutions.
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys owning product strategy end-to-end, thrives in ambiguity, and wants to operate at the intersection of life sciences, data infrastructure, and applied AI - with deep ownership over what gets built and why.
Finally, you are not afraid to get your hands dirty - this is a small, early-stage company with enormous ambitions and everyone pitches in to do everything.
You will report directly to the Head of Engineering.
Responsibilities
  • Define and own the product vision and roadmap for Dandelion's life science data products, aligning customer needs, technical feasibility, and business strategy.
  • Lead product discovery and strategic research, including market analysis, problem validation, and targeted customer interviews to inform roadmap decisions.
  • Identify high-impact opportunities to build scalable data products and applications for life science and clinical development use cases.
  • Translate product strategy into clear product requirements, success metrics, and prioritization frameworks.
  • Design and implement AI-enabled automation and workflows that improve data access, analysis, and clinical development processes for life science customers
  • Partner closely with engineering and data science to shape technical approaches, make tradeoffs, and drive execution from concept through launch.
  • Evaluate product performance and usage to iterate on features, improve outcomes, and guide future investment.
  • Stay current on life sciences, clinical development, and clinical AI trends, using industry insight to inform product direction and differentiation.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5+ years of proven experience building data products or platforms for life science or healthcare customers.
  • Strong product discovery and strategy skills, including leading customer interviews and translating insights into roadmap decisions.
  • Technical fluency, including comfort working with:
    • Data infrastructure
    • APIs and data pipelines
    • AI / ML-enabled products (no need to code, but must speak the language)
  • Experience partnering closely with engineering and data teams to deliver complex products.
  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguity and wearing multiple hats in an early-stage company

Preferred:
  • Experience building 0→1 products or taking early products to scale for life science customers
  • UX or product design experience, with strong intuition for customer workflows and usability.
  • Prior data science or analytics experience.

Team Benefits
  • Remote work and flexible hours. Availability needed for meetings, which we try to keep to a healthy minimum
  • Complete wellness benefits including healthcare, dental, vision, PTO, sick days and more. Ask for details
  • Professional development days to build your skills
  • Collegial work environment
  • Academic bent towards inquiry and problem solving but start-up speed and flexibility
  • Great balance of focus time to work on projects but easy to access team members to discuss issues and work collaboratively
  • Dandelion is a mission-driven company that is focused on improving patient care
