Remote Language Editor information

What are Remote Language Editors?

Remote Language Editors are professionals who review, revise, and correct written content for grammar, spelling, clarity, tone, and style, typically from a remote location. They often work with academic, business, technical, or creative texts to ensure language accuracy and consistency. These editors may collaborate with writers, publishers, or companies via online platforms, making it possible to work from anywhere with an internet connection. Remote Language Editors need excellent language skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage deadlines independently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Language Editor, and why are they important?

To excel as a Remote Language Editor, you need advanced proficiency in the target language, strong grammar and style knowledge, and a degree in languages, linguistics, or a related field. Familiarity with editing tools like Microsoft Word track changes, style guides (APA, Chicago, etc.), and sometimes specialized software such as Grammarly or CAT tools is often required. Excellent attention to detail, time management, and the ability to communicate clearly with clients or authors are essential soft skills. These competencies ensure the delivery of polished, accurate, and timely language editing services in a remote, client-facing environment.

What are some common challenges faced by remote language editors and how can they be managed?

Remote language editors often encounter challenges such as managing multiple deadlines, maintaining clear communication with authors and team members across time zones, and staying updated with evolving style guides. To manage these, it’s essential to establish a structured workflow, utilize collaborative editing platforms, and set regular check-ins with colleagues. Proactive communication and strong organizational skills can help remote editors deliver consistent, high-quality work while balancing flexibility and productivity.

Job description

About LegalZoom
LegalZoom is on a mission to help people navigate the legal system with confidence and clarity. As a leader in online legal services for over 25 years, we combine technology, attorney-led solutions, and expertise to protect the aspirations, lives, and legacies of millions of customers. If you’re ready to contribute to a collaborative, diverse, and distributed group of creative thinkers and problem-solvers, we can’t wait to meet you.
Human-in-the-Loop
At LegalZoom, we operate with a human-in-the-loop model, where AI enhances—rather than replaces—human judgment. We believe the strongest outcomes for our customers come from thoughtfully integrating human expertise with AI capabilities to improve accuracy, safety, and decision-making.
To align with our AI-integrated operating model, our interview process will assess AI fluency, curiosity, and measurable/impactful workflow integration.
Where we work
We believe work should work for you. LegalZoom supports a remote-friendly environment that gives employees flexibility and balance. Our Austin, Beaverton, Frisco, Los Angeles Metro, and San Francisco Bay Area offices allow our employees to collaborate with teammates and offer special onsite events, lunches, and more.
This hybrid position will work remotely as well as onsite in our Austin, TX, Sherman Oaks, CA or Mountain View, CA office. Please include a portfolio with your application.
Overview
LegalZoom’s Brand & Creative team is seeking a Senior Art Director to help shape our visual strategy across key brand expressions, including ads, social, shoots, and video content. You'll create AI-native creative workflows from concept through execution, partnering closely with copywriters, designers, video editors, strategists, and channel owners to translate briefs into compelling creative that strengthens and evolves the LegalZoom brand.
With a strong foundation in advertising and brand design, you know how to develop ideas that work across channels and formats, and can guide creative work from initial direction through final delivery. This role requires a balance of conceptual thinking, hands-on design craft, production expertise, and cross-functional collaboration. You'll play a key role in setting the visual bar for the team, providing clear, actionable creative feedback, and helping elevate the quality of work across disciplines.
This is not a role for someone who is experimenting with AI. We're looking for someone who already uses AI as a core part of their creative process, leveraging it to generate ideas, accelerate production, and improve output quality. You understand how to integrate AI into creative workflows while maintaining strong creative judgment and high standards.
You'll bring a distinctive visual point of view, strong art direction skills, and the hands-on AI fluency to move quickly from brief to concept to execution. You'll know when AI can accelerate the work and when human taste, judgment, and creative leadership make the difference.

You Will
  • Help define the visual strategy for key brand and marketing initiatives, ensuring creative is clear, compelling, and consistent across channels.
  • Translate complex ideas into compelling visual narratives that align with business goals, audience needs, and brand standards.
  • Contribute to and help evolve LegalZoom's visual language, including typography, color, composition, photography, illustration, and motion, while helping maintain brand consistency and guardrails across creative assets.
  • Use AI throughout the creative process, from concepting, moodboarding, image generation, and video pre-visualization to asset development, creative iteration, and performance testing.
  • In partnership with video editors, oversee AI-native asset workflows for photography and video creation, including color grading, background cleanup, resolution upscaling, image library evaluation, and brand-consistency checks across new and existing assets.
  • Provide visual direction and actionable feedback to designers, writers, editors, and external partners, helping teams execute high-quality work efficiently and effectively.
  • Consistently identify opportunities to create Claude Skills, agentic workflows, templates, and repeatable processes that improve speed, quality, and efficiency for the creative team and cross-functional stakeholders. Evaluate and recommend AI tools for team adoption, with a clear-eyed understanding of what improves the workflow, what is ready to scale, and what is still hype.

You Have
  • 6–8+ years of experience as an Art Director or Senior Art Director on an in-house team or at a top-tier creative agency, with a portfolio featuring work for modern consumer or technology brands demonstrating concept-driven campaigns, clear visual narratives, and thoughtful use of typography, color, composition, photography, and motion.
  • Demonstrated, active fluency with AI creative tools — not familiarity, not curiosity. You use these tools in your current workflow. Your portfolio or process reflects it. This is a requirement, not a differentiator.
  • Experience directing video and photo production, with working knowledge of pre-production workflows and an ability to use AI tooling to compress and de-risk the pre-production phase.
  • A systems mindset: you think in rules, not one-offs. You can look at a set of design decisions and determine which ones are AI-configurable and which ones still require a human.
  • Strong ability to write design constraints in plain language — you can articulate why a rule exists and what it means in practice, in a form that doesn't require a designer to interpret it.
  • Experience with performance creative and an understanding of how to design for variant testing at scale.
  • Proficiency in Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and AI-native capabilities such as Firefly, Generative Fill, and Generative Expand. Experience using AI creative tools across ideation, image generation, moodboarding, visual exploration, storyboarding, asset creation, and creative iteration. Familiarity with platforms such as Midjourney, ChatGPT, Claude, Runway, Veo, Sora, or equivalent emerging AI tools.
  • Strong cross-functional communication skills and experience working across brand, product, growth, and production teams.
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity — this team is evolving its systems in real time, and this role will be part of defining what comes next.

The national range for this role is $124,000 - $155,000. Actual compensation offered will depend on several factors, including but not limited to: geographic location, work experience, education, skill level, and/or other business and organizational needs. In addition, an annual bonus, incentive bonus, and/or restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package. You will also receive a full range of medical, financial, and other benefits, as seen below.
