About the Position:
The Nurse (Lactation) position is located at Naval Hospital Jacksonville, Jacksonville, FL, within the Directorate of Nursing, inpatient Maternal Infant Unit,.
This is a Direct Hire Solicitation for DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce.

Duties
Help
  • This position serves as a Post Partum and Lactation Nurse and is the primary Lactation Consultant at a Medical Treatment Facility (MTF).
  • Serves as the consultant nurse for Women's Health Service Line regarding breastfeeding issues.
  • Establishes and maintains a regular follow-up system of continuing care for mothers and their infants.
  • Provides expanded comprehensive and therapeutic health care services to postpartum patients and newborn nursery that combines the services of the Nurse Practitioner and the physician within mutually established medical guidelines.
  • Identifies and manages own caseload of mother/baby patient as a post partum nurse aside from her Lactation nursing duties intermittently.
  • Performs routine health assessments for both mom and baby.

  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
  • This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
  • This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
  • This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled.
  • This position has a requirement to lift up to 30 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
  • This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
  • This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
  • This position is subject to TDY or business travel requirements to various locations. This may require travel via privately owned vehicles, commercial transport platforms, and/or military aircraft, ships, and vehicles.
  • This position is designated as having regular and recurring contact with children under the age of 18 and is subject to requirements of DoDI 1402.05.

Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens
In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Education/Experience: A diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program and possession of at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level or above) which includes experience such as 1) providing postpartum and postoperative obstetrical and gynecological care; 2) operating specialized medical equipment, administering medications, 3) responding to adverse signs, emergency situations, implementing emergency protocols, and identifying life-threatening conditions; 4) overseeing lactation support programs, performing newborn assessments, and delivering comprehensive family education.

Education: A PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.

Exemption: You are exempt from the qualification requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
