Description IT Application Development Journey Full Time | Permanent Salary Range: $85,800 - $115,416 Annually This is a telework eligible position, with a 5/8's schedule. The candidate of choice may work from anywhere within the state of Washington with a reliable internet connection. Travel may be required.

Are you passionate about transforming complex data into meaningful insights. Join our team as a Report Writer (Application Development Journey) and play a vital role in supporting the Washington State Department of Corrections' mission to improve public safety. The goal of this position is to develop innovative reports and dashboards that provide critical information to leaders and staff across the agency, helping drive informed decisions that support efficient operations and positive outcomes.

As a Report Writer, you will design, develop, test, and maintain data reports and dashboards using Microsoft SQL Server technologies. Working closely with Business Analysts, subject matter experts, and IT teams, you'll translate business requirements into accurate, user-friendly reporting solutions that provide timely and reliable access to data across the Department. You'll develop and populate data structures, validate and deploy reporting solutions, and ensure reports perform efficiently while meeting business needs.

This role also involves analyzing and validating data to ensure its quality and integrity, supporting responses to internal and external requests related to Department populations, programs, services, and budgets, and maintaining reporting solutions that enable effective decision-making. Your work will directly contribute to improving operations and advancing the Department's mission of enhancing public safety throughout Washington State. As an IT Application Development Journey, some of your duties will include: Designing, developing, and maintaining the BI data infrastructure to consistently and reliably support business needs to include: Collaborating with Business Analysts to understand reporting needs and translate them into technical specifications. Translating business requirements into a data model Designing how data will be processed, stored, and accessed through the SSRS reports Creating/maintaining the SSRS reports and all the processes and data from multiple data sources Clearly documenting processes to ensure effective and consistent maintenance Maintaining SSRS reports and resolving data quality issues which could look like: Maintaining communication with stakeholders and troubleshooting and updating existing reports to ensure performance and accuracy. Consulting with and makes recommendations to the supervisor on continuous improvements to data processes, including data mining, efficient report production, data integrity, and innovative ways to support the Department in making data-driven decisions Modifying the data integration processes to include the requested changes Identifying root causes behind data inconsistencies and data issues, and determines whether it is a local data integration issue or an application issue Recommending, designing and deploying continuous improvements to enhance the performance and quality of SSRS reports Performing database administration, uses Azure DevOps (ADO) and manages Active Directory security groups administration on the BI group managed data, processes and reporting access Qualifications What we need (required qualifications): High school diploma or equivalent AND Minimum of six (6) Years of Software Development experience.

This experience must include: At least two (2) years of progressively responsible, professional work experience within the Information Technology field including experience in analyzing, designing, coding, and implementing applications using .SQL Server, and SQL Server Reporting Services OR A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field AND At least two (2) years of progressively responsible, professional work experience within the Information Technology field including experience in analyzing, designing, coding, and implementing applications using SQL Server, and SQL Server Reporting Services In addition to the above knowledge and experience, the below KSA"s are also required: A good understanding of the ASP.NET framework, SQL Server, and design/architectural patterns. Demonstrated experience in logical data modeling, relational data architecture. Experience in resolving application defects and performance issues in connection with changing business requirements

Experience in writing and/or modifying existing programs, documenting solution programs for application systems. In-depth knowledge of design patterns, enterprise integration patterns, and patterns for modern enterprise architecture Experience in life-cycle management of modern application development. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.

Employees will be required to commute to a Department of Corrections facility or field office as business requires, to potentially include components of the onboarding process.

Some offices will have a "drop in" area available, however, a dedicated workspace within a DOC facility will not be provided.
