Job description

VISIT FLORIDA shares Florida sunshine with the world. As the state's official tourism marketing organization, VISIT FLORIDA has been charged with selling an extraordinary vacation product since 1996. As part of our Public Relations team, we're looking for a savvy, detail-oriented, motivated professional to fill our Public Relations Specialist role.
This role has the opportunity to be remote, but must be located in Florida. Preference to be located in our corporate office located in Tallahassee, Florida.
Core Responsibilities:
  • Assist in the management of Public Relations (PR) programs in assigned markets, including strategy development, budgeting and execution of PR initiatives. Act as a liaison between agency offices and VISIT FLORIDA.
  • Oversee agencies in planning and executing media missions and events, campaigns, press visits, content creator campaigns, PR activations and broadcast opportunities.
  • Work with Florida destination Partners to provide opportunities to showcase their destination and educate them on assigned markets, trends and research.
  • Coordinate and implement group FAM (familiarization) tours and individual press trips with journalists and/or content creators. Work with destination Partners to secure accommodations, itineraries, transportation, attraction tickets, etc.
  • Develop and maintain media list with top-tier journalists and content creators. Ensure relationships with top journalists and content creators are maintained via desk side appointments, phone calls, media receptions, media mission trade shows and events, press trips, and in-market events.
  • Travel to and represent VISIT FLORIDA at various travel shows, including Florida Huddle, IPW and International Media Marketplace.
  • Manage PR inbox, responding to information from media, content creators, and Industry Partners. Oversee media relations site, including uploading industry and market press releases.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or related field
  • 2+ years of public relations experience
  • Experience managing consumer, travel trade and/or business PR campaigns, including developing strategy, creating plans, writing, pitching, and collaborating with an integrated marketing team
  • Strong understanding of the role of content, social media, content creator marketing and media relations in a dynamic organization
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with agencies, journalists, content creators, and VISIT FLORIDA Partners. Strong understanding of travel trends and ability to showcase Florida destinations.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple projects and agencies. Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize workload and attention to detail
  • Position includes travel that will require a valid passport and Florida driver's license
