What is a Remote Insurance Broker job?

A Remote Insurance Broker is a licensed professional who helps clients find and purchase insurance policies while working from a remote location. They assess clients' needs, compare coverage options from different providers, and offer expert advice to ensure clients get the best protection at competitive rates. Brokers typically communicate with clients via phone, email, or video calls and may specialize in various types of insurance, such as health, life, auto, or home insurance. This role requires strong sales, communication, and analytical skills, along with knowledge of insurance regulations.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Remote Insurance Broker position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Insurance Broker, you need strong sales skills, in-depth knowledge of insurance products, and typically a valid insurance broker license. Familiarity with CRM software, digital communication platforms, and online quoting and policy management systems is important. Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to build trust with clients remotely are key soft skills. These abilities are crucial to effectively serve clients, manage policies, and achieve sales targets in a virtual environment.

What are some typical challenges faced by remote insurance brokers and how can they be managed?

Remote insurance brokers commonly face challenges such as building client relationships without face-to-face interaction, staying organized across multiple digital platforms, and maintaining self-discipline when working independently. To overcome these, successful brokers leverage video calls and frequent check-ins to build trust, use CRM tools to track client communications, and establish structured daily routines. Being proactive with follow-ups and staying informed about changing insurance regulations also helps in delivering excellent service. Many companies provide virtual training, support communities, and resources to help remote brokers stay connected and effective in their roles.

Summary:

NFP’s Professional Liability practice is seeking a licensed P&C Broker to support placements across Management Liability, Cyber, and Professional Liability lines of coverage. This role can sit remote, hybrid, or in-office, with a preference for candidates based on the East Coast or near an NFP office.

This is an opportunity for a broker who can operate with a high level of independence, managing their own book of business while continuing to build expertise in complex professional liability exposures. The role is best suited for an individual early to mid-career who is ready for increased responsibility and hands-on broking experience, but who is still looking to deepen their technical knowledge across these lines.

The team is seeking someone who can come in with a strong foundation, contribute immediately, and grow into a more specialized broker over time. Candidates may come from a generalist background or a smaller brokerage environment, with exposure to multiple lines of coverage.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proactively coordinate broking around the renewal cycle in accordance to NFP’s service model standards and timelines
  • Support placement of Management Liability, Cyber, and Professional Liability programs, developing go-to-market strategies for each client or prospect
  • Negotiate with insurance carriers to secure competitive terms, conditions, and pricing, while building a strong understanding of client risk profiles
  • Partner with account management teams to prepare and market submissions, respond to underwriter inquiries, and evaluate carrier quotes
  • Analyze coverage options and present clear, strategic recommendations to clients and internal stakeholders
  • Assist in preparing proposals, coverage comparisons, and client-facing materials
  • Respond to client inquiries and support issue resolution in a timely and professional manner
  • Review binders and policies to ensure accuracy of terms and conditions
  • Participate in client meetings, presentations, and renewal discussions as part of the broking team
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with carriers, wholesalers, and internal partners
  • Build working knowledge of the professional liability marketplace, including emerging trends in cyber and management liability
  • Support cross-sell and upsell opportunities across NFP’s broader platform
  • Maintain accurate and organized client and broking data within internal systems

Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities:

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to convey complex coverage concepts clearly
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with internal teams
  • Strong negotiation and analytical skills, with attention to detail
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Foundational knowledge of P&C coverages; exposure to management liability, cyber, or professional liability is preferred but not required
  • Ability to learn quickly and build technical expertise over time
  • Positive, proactive attitude with a strong sense of ownership and accountability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; experience with Epic a plus

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent preferred
  • Minimum of three to five years insurance experience
  • Background as a generalist broker or experience across multiple lines

Certificates, Licenses, Registration:

  • P&C License required or obtained within 90 days of employment
