Position Details
  • Location: Remote (must reside in FL, GA, NC, or SC)
  • Status: PRN (as-needed, non-benefit eligible)
  • Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
  • Schedule: Flexible

What You'll Do
As an Advanced Inpatient Coding Specialist, you will play a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of inpatient medical records. You'll work across multiple high-acuity service lines-including Orthopedics, Neurology, Cardiac, General Surgery, and Trauma-reviewing complex, multi-day encounters.
Key responsibilities include:
  • Analyzing complex inpatient documentation to assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and ICD-10-PCS
  • Collaborating with physicians and clinical teams to ensure accurate coding of complex conditions such as sepsis and malnutrition
  • Creating and managing physician queries and monitoring bill hold reports
  • Partnering with Clinical Documentation Specialists and Quality teams to support accurate MS-DRG assignment and PSI/HAC reviews
  • Applying advanced knowledge of anatomy, pathophysiology, and pharmacology to support coding accuracy
  • Mentoring and supporting Coder I-III team members and students as needed
  • Completing additional duties as assigned

What We're Looking For
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of acute care experience
    • 3+ years of inpatient coding experience
  • Certification:
    • Required: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
    • Preferred: Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
  • Education:
    • Required: High School Diploma or equivalent
    • Preferred: Associate degree in Health Information Technology
