About the Role
PetLab Co.'s mission is to become the leader in science-based pet supplements. Our purpose is to help companion animals through science and innovation, creating products that make a meaningful difference to the lives of pets and their owners. With an exciting and ever-growing pipeline featuring novel ingredients and product formats, there is significant scope to shape what comes next.
As a Scientist III, you'll take ownership of new products from concept through to commercialization. This is a senior, innovation-led role that combines hands-on formulation and product development with market insight, trend scouting, and ingredient innovation. You'll turn scientific and commercial opportunities into differentiated pet products that strengthen our pipeline.
You'll lead ingredient reviews, develop product formulations, and guide products through lab testing, substantiation, and nutritional testing. Working with internal specialists, external partners, suppliers, and manufacturers, you'll be responsible for progressing products through each stage of development and preparing them for a successful launch.
Acting as a bridge between R&D, marketing, and product development, you'll bring together scientific expertise, consumer insight, and commercial thinking. You'll identify emerging ingredients, formats, and category trends, influence product direction, and help ensure innovation is both scientifically credible and commercially relevant.

Your day to day will look a little bit like this...
  • Tracking category trends, ingredient research and scientific/clinical developments (new ingredient efficacy data, novel delivery formats, published studies) to keep the pipeline ahead of the market.
  • Leading the aggregation of insight and research findings across the R&D science team into a unified view of white space and pipeline opportunities and translating these into forward-looking innovation briefs.
  • Leading efforts with our Chief Scientist and external partners to formulate new products and bring projects from concept to commercialization.
  • Reviewing and optimising current products, including ongoing review of ingredient scientific data to assess suitability for new or existing formulations.
  • Working closely with compliance, and keeping abreast of evolving regulatory expectations to ensure ingredient, label and marketing claims stay compliant
  • Working closely with the wider interdepartmental team (NPD, operations, growth and marketing) to support the successful launch of products.

Requirements
What You Need...
  • Bachelor & Masters of Science in a technical area including animal science and nutrition
  • Extensive experience with product formulation
  • Deep knowledge of ingredients, their mode of action, quality variance etc
  • Experience with R&D of early stage yet unproven ingredients
  • Experience with setting up and executing in-vitro and in-vivo trials, reviewing and reporting on data and results
  • Experience in clearly explaining and justifying final formulations and product formats
  • Proven project management skills typically acquired through 5+ years of professional experience leading NPD projects as the key technical member of a cross-functional team, with hands-on experience managing complex projects through to successful launch of new products, packages and processes
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, people development skills and learning agility
  • Experience in working with a range of outside partners to deliver project requirements
  • Ability to translate market intelligence, competitor activity and scientific research into clear, actionable innovation strategy and briefs for cross-functional stakeholders
