What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Informatics Nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Informatics Nurse, a solid background in nursing practice, informatics, and data analysis is essential, typically supported by a BSN degree and RN licensure, with additional certification in nursing informatics preferred. As a remote informatics nurse, you work from home or outside of a clinical setting to collect data, analyze trends, and create more efficient systems for the medical industry, specifically for patient care. Your responsibilities require a lot of time spent on computer systems and administrative duties rather than direct interaction with a patient. Electronic medical records (EMRs) take up a large portion of your duties as you streamline the system and create user-friendly options. You introduce new technology, train others remotely, and provide feedback to the IT department to help improve the software. Informatics nurses also write policies, review clinical statistics, track quality initiatives, and handle project management.
