Job Description:
AriensCo is excited to be seeking an experienced Director of Trade Compliance to lead and oversee all aspects of our global trade compliance program. This critical role ensures compliance with international trade regulations, customs laws, and export control requirements while proactively managing risk across the organization. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in global trade regulations and hands-on experience navigating customs procedures, duties, tariffs, and import/export controls. In this role, you'll collaborate closely with cross-functional teams-including logistics, supply chain, sales, engineering, and finance-to strengthen our global supply chain and mitigate compliance risks worldwide.
This role is based at our Brillion, WI office and offers a hybrid work arrangement. Please note that a fully remote option is not available. Relocation assistance is also provided.

THE DAY TO DAY...

  • Provide strategic direction and execution leadership for global trade compliance and ensure compliance with all import/export laws and regulations
  • Develop and implement a global trade compliance strategy aligned with company goals
  • Oversee the classification and valuation of goods, tariff classification, duty draw-back programs, and free trade agreements to ensure cost-effective imports and exports
  • Develop and implement strategies to minimize trade compliance risk, optimize tariff classifications, and improve the overall cost-effectiveness of global trade operations
  • Create and enforce global trade compliance policies and procedures
  • Oversee import/export registrations, permits, and licenses. Ensure accurate import/export filings and maintain quality
  • Develop and lead training programs for internal stakeholders on trade compliance best practices, including customs requirements, reporting, and documentation
  • Ensure the company conducts regular audits of trade processes and maintains thorough records for customs documentation, duty payments, and any corrective actions
  • Work with cross-functional to ensure timely and efficient handling of trade-related issues
  • Evaluate and monitor suppliers and third-party service providers to ensure compliance with trade regulations
  • Lead a team of international transportation professionals
  • Continuously monitor changes in trade laws, tariffs, and regulations at the federal, state, and international levels to ensure the company is up-to-date and compliant. Ensure necessary document retention
  • Work with AriensCo leadership to develop a communication strategy for global trade compliance program to increase visibility of the function within AriensCo and enhance employees' understanding/awareness of trade compliance issues
  • Provide guidance to assist legal, contracts and procurement with the review, drafting and negotiation of export/import terms in customer and supplier contracts
  • Submit disclosure of potential trade compliance violations if necessary
  • Oversee work of third-party trade compliance managed service provider
  • Conduct internal investigations of compliance issues, and government inquiries, and handle responses and resolution. Provide guidance and oversight to others leading investigations

THE QUALIFICATIONS...

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in international trade including extensive knowledge of handling imports and exports in accordance with foreign government regulations
  • Extensive knowledge of U.S. and international trade laws, including customs clearance, import/export controls, free trade agreements, and relevant trade compliance technologies
  • Experience working with a global manufacturing company preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate with external authorities and internal stakeholders
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, especially in managing compliance documentation and risk assessment
  • Experience working with regulatory bodies (e.g., U.S. Customs and Border Protection)
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes, supply chain logistics, and inventory management in the context of international trade
  • Strong working knowledge of commercial practices including accounting, finance, sales and marketing.
  • Experience working with a global manufacturing company preferred
