Job description

Position Summary:
The Coder II applies intermediate-level coding knowledge to accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, and CPT-4 classification systems. This role reviews clinical documentation for coding accuracy and compliance, monitors bill hold reports, and collaborates with leadership to support coding quality initiatives. The Coder II also serves as a resource to less experienced coders by assisting with mentoring, training, and professional development activities.

  • Status: Full Time
  • Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 3:30 PM
  • Shift: Days
  • Weekend Requirement: None
  • On Call: No
  • Work Location: Fully Remote - Must live in the following states: Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes in accordance with coding guidelines and regulatory requirements.
  • Analyze clinical documentation to ensure coding completeness, accuracy, and appropriate reimbursement.
  • Monitor and resolve coding-related bill hold issues.
  • Maintain productivity and quality standards established by the department.
  • Support coding education efforts by assisting with training and mentoring Coder I team members and coding students.
  • Collaborate with leadership and colleagues to promote coding consistency and best practices.
  • Stay current on coding regulations, payer guidelines, and industry updates.

Minimum Qualifications:
Required
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Previous coding experience

Preferred
  • Associate Degree in Health Information Technology or a related field
  • Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
  • Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT)
