Job Description
As a Casualty/Homeowner Liability Bodily Injury Adjuster, you will be responsible for investigating and managing complex homeowner liability claims, including dog bites, slip-and-fall incidents, and other claims involving third-party property damage and/or bodily injury. Working remotely from your home office, you will independently handle a litigation-focused caseload while delivering exceptional customer service throughout the claim lifecycle. In this role, you will evaluate coverage, liability, and damages, conduct thorough investigations, and work closely with customers, attorneys, and other claim stakeholders. Communication will occur through multiple channels, including phone, email, and text. Leveraging innovative claims platforms and tools, you will negotiate settlements, manage litigation exposures, and help drive fair and timely claim resolutions.
This position is designed for an experienced litigation/complex claims adjuster who is comfortable handling higher-severity bodily injury claims and navigating the litigation process.
Key Responsibilities
  • Negotiates and settles claims in accordance with business unit best practices.
  • Review policy language and analysis determine coverage.
  • Reviews of medical reports in preparation for claims settlement evaluation.
  • Coordinate the appraisal process for highly complex, disputed claims, ensuring adherence to policy provisions.
  • Determines and explains coverage limits in moderately complex and complex claims involving single or multiple claimants, also determines claim value.
  • Sets initial reserve, updates reserve, documents rationale and claim summary notes.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for policyholder attorneys, leading direct negotiations to resolve disputes efficiently.
  • Draft and respond to attorney correspondence, requests for information, and demands to maintain compliance and mitigate legal exposure.
  • Researches and responds to moderately complex and occasionally complex customer communications, concerns, conflicts or issues.
  • Summarizes documents and enters into claim system notes, documenting a claim file with notes, evaluations and decision-making process.

Preferred Qualifications
  • 3+ years of bodily injury claims handling experience, including litigation and/or complex casualty claims.
  • Experience handling homeowner liability claims (dog bites, premises liability, etc.) preferred but not required.
  • Strong investigation, negotiation, and claim resolution skills.
  • Ability to effectively manage attorney-represented claims and complex liability exposures.
  • Candidates based on the West Coast are strongly preferred. Applicants in other locations may be considered if they can reliably work Pacific Time zone hours.

Supervisory Responsibilities
This job does not have supervisory duties.
This position is not available to Alaska, California, Hawaii or Washington residents.
Remote Home-Based Work:
This position is a permanent remote home-based role. Your home office does not need to be near an Allstate office, but it does need to be in the United States. This position is not available for California, Alaska, Hawaii, or Washington residents.
When you work from home full time, you'll need:
  • A home office - a dedicated workspace in your residence that is private and free from distractions.
  • A minimum internet bandwidth of 50 MB down/5 MB up.
  • Appropriate work surface and seating.

What will Allstate provide?
  • A technology bundle that includes all equipment needed to perform your work from home (laptop, monitors, headset, keyboard, mouse).
  • Connectivity reimbursement of $80 per month to offset some of the cost of internet.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
  • As a condition of employment, your office/area may require you to obtain an adjuster and/or an appraiser license which includes passing an additional background check with the Department of Labor. If applicable, you will be required to secure license(s) within 60 days of hire.
  • If required, the Hiring Manager will work with you along with the Centralized Licensing team to ensure that you are properly licensed.

Notice of Licensing Requirement:
  • As a requirement of employment, individuals who currently hold an active insurance license must terminate all existing appointments prior to onboarding and must not hold any outside appointments at any point during employment.
  • Applicants seeking an adjuster role who also hold a resident producer license must formally surrender that license when instructed to by the licensing team. By proceeding with the application process, applicants acknowledge and accept these licensing requirements and agree to comply.

Sign-on Bonus:
  • You may be eligible for a $1,000 Licensing Sign on Bonus if you have the applicable active licenses needed for this role. This could include Home Resident Property & Casualty License, Designated Home State (DHS) Florida or Texas License, and/or applicable Appraiser License.
  • Current employees or candidates who have previously worked for Allstate, including its family of companies, are not eligible for this sign-on bonus.
