Job description

At Anchorage Digital, we are building the world's most advanced digital asset platform for institutions to participate in crypto.
Anchorage Digital is a crypto platform that enables institutions to participate in digital assets through custody, staking, trading, governance, settlement, and the industry's leading security infrastructure. Home to Anchorage Digital Bank N.A., the first federally chartered crypto bank in the U.S., Anchorage Digital also serves institutions through Anchorage Digital Singapore, Porto by Anchorage Digital, and other offerings.
The company is funded by leading institutions including Andreessen Horowitz, GIC, Goldman Sachs, KKR, and Visa, with its Series D valuation over $3 billion. Founded in 2017 in San Francisco, California, Anchorage Digital has offices in New York, New York; Porto, Portugal; Singapore; and Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Learn more at anchorage.com, on X @Anchorage, and on LinkedIn.
With the evolving landscape of digital threats and an increasing volume of sophisticated attacks by malicious actors, we have a security policy mandating all new hires complete an in-person onboarding process - no exceptions. Security is our foundation and we prioritize physical identity verification and secure IT setup. While our security and IT logistics require physical presence to protect our infrastructure from sophisticated global threats, this move is equally about our Village culture. We believe that a laptop can be shipped, but our culture cannot.
  • As Trading Operations Team Lead, you are responsible for building and managing a global team of trading operations professionals that support our clients in their daily trading activities. You will play a crucial role in building the infrastructure of the post-trade lifecycle of the activity of various digital asset instruments, ensuring timely settlements, reconciliation and implementing strong risk mitigation strategies. This position requires a deep understanding of cryptocurrencies, blockchain technology, financial operations, and risk management. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver at heart, possess strong technical skills, the ability to handle complex tasks, organizational knowledge, and effective communication and influence capabilities to help drive business outcomes. You have a full understanding of the settlement operations, as well as the regulatory and operational considerations of each step. You and your team will support client interactions across multiple teams and work closely with trading and other areas of client operations to ensure processes and procedures are developed and continuously refined.

We have created the Factors of Growth & Impact to help Villagers in measuring impact and expressing coaching, feedback, and the valuable learning experiences that arise while exploring, developing, and mastering the capabilities and contributions within and beyond the Member of Client Operations role:
Technical Skills:
  • Leverage deep understanding of traditional financial services, products and strategies as required to provide thought leadership and strategic support to Anchorage Digital clients and the goals they have to implement their own strategies.
  • Lead efforts to develop and refine processes for managing Counterparty and Client post trade processing, defining performance metrics (SLAs, KPIs) and ensuring that they are met while enabling operational scalability.
  • Oversee and mentor a global team responsible for executing spot, lending, and derivatives operations. You will ensure that the team is aligned with broader strategic objectives, while driving accuracy and efficiency in operational processes.
  • Utilize blockchain explorers, trading platforms, and other relevant software and tools to reconcile and monitor the activity of different digital assets across both internal ledgers and external systems (banks, custodians, etc.).
  • Perform cash positioning and inventory management for various product flows to ensure that we have the right assets at the right place at the right time to optimize the firm's treasury management, mitigate risks, and streamline settlement processes.
  • Serve as the key liaison between operational teams and engineering/product teams, advocating for operational needs and helping shape the development of the roadmap for platform development to streamline trading, settlement, and risk operations.
  • Collaborate with the Accounting and Finance teams to ensure timely provision of accurate trade and settlement data and assist in the resolution of breakages.
  • Develop and implement process improvement initiatives to ensure optimal operational efficiency
  • Stay ahead of developments in the crypto industry, gaining a deep understanding of tokens, protocols, and verticals like staking and governance. Use this expertise to inform operational strategy and execution.

Complexity and Impact of Work:
  • Proactively engage with business partners to adapt and learn quickly as business strategies evolve and new products and tasks are introduced. You will be instrumental in aligning operational goals with the company's broader vision, ensuring the team remains agile and responsive
  • Manage the complexities of designing processes to reconcile and settle transactions involving a wide range of digital assets, including cryptocurrencies, tokenized assets, and fiat currencies.
  • Inspire and lead a high performing team with a shared consciousness and a bias for action. You will oversee time sensitive tasks, prioritize competing demands, and ensure deadlines are met, driving operational excellence
  • Identify operational priorities and create internal presentations, reports, and/or lead projects to advocate for enhanced internal processes or contribute to the development of new tasks.
  • Be a prolific manager of individual contributors, building a team capable of delivering day-to-day results on core tasks autonomously.
  • Effectively gauge, communicate, and mitigate risks to the organization and to clients, thoughtfully addressing complicated questions.

Organizational Knowledge:
  • Keep yourself and your team updated with the evolving cryptocurrency industry trends, regulatory guidelines, and best practices related to settlements and custodial services.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of different cryptocurrencies, their underlying technologies, and the operational processes involved in custodianship.
  • Ensure that knowledge is shared among the team and in conjunction with business partners; do not position yourself or others as a single point of failure.
  • Be familiar with the responsibilities and interests of interdepartmental teams, as well as foster collaborative relationships and partnerships to achieve common goals.

Communication and Influence:
  • Directly manage and coach members of the team; help identify any shortcomings in current processes.
  • Have "executive presence," i.e. confidence and composure interfacing with financial investors and C-level executives.
  • Actively lead discussions within the team to improve processes and productivity, and thoughtfully convey information and insights with impact when working with other teams to address projects & issues.
  • Forge relationships with key partners, specifically in support of the organization's Compliance and Product departments, as well as external counterparties.
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders, such as traders, operations teams, compliance officers, and executives, to resolve settlement-related issues.

You may be a fit for this role if:
  • 7+ years experience supporting post trade activities of institutional clients in both traditional asset classes and crypto assets.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and agility, to identify emerging risks quickly, brainstorm solutions, and pivot when goals change.
  • Have led the creation of end-to-end trade operations processes, from trade capture and settlement to reconciliation, Derivatives, and risk management.
  • A track record of assembling and leading teams that are both efficient and adaptable in the face of evolving business needs.

Although not a requirement, bonus points if:
  • Experience in Python and SQL is a plus.
  • Have experience with and understanding of crypto-native institutions.
  • A passion for building early-stage startups.
  • You were emotionally moved by the soundtrack to Hamilton, which chronicles the founding of a new financial system. :)
