Both roles often collaborate remotely and require portfolios, but their core skills and responsibilities differ significantly.

What is remote game development?

Remote game development refers to the process of creating video games while working from a location outside of a traditional office environment, often from home or any place with internet access. Teams collaborate using online tools for coding, design, art, and communication, allowing for flexible work arrangements. Remote game development has become increasingly popular as technology enables seamless collaboration across different locations, time zones, and even countries. This setup can help studios access a wider talent pool and support better work-life balance for developers.

What are some common challenges faced by remote game developers and how can they be addressed?

Remote game developers often encounter challenges such as coordinating across time zones, maintaining clear communication, and ensuring version control of shared assets. To overcome these, teams frequently use collaboration tools like Slack, project management platforms, and version control systems such as Git. Regular virtual meetings and clear documentation are also essential to keep everyone aligned and productive. Proactively addressing these challenges helps maintain a cohesive workflow and fosters a positive remote team environment.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Game Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Game Developer, a solid background in computer science, game design principles, and programming languages such as C++, C#, or JavaScript is essential, often supported by a relevant degree or portfolio. Familiarity with game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine, version control systems (e.g., Git), and sometimes certifications in game development tools are typically required. Strong communication, self-motivation, and problem-solving abilities help remote developers collaborate effectively and manage their time independently. These skills ensure seamless project delivery, innovation, and high-quality gameplay experiences in a distributed work environment.

Job description

Imagine your ideal job. Now add bowling. And arcade games. And parties every day of the week. This isn’t any ordinary job; it’s the beginning of aled new career as a Hybrid Director of Sales at Lucky Strike Entertainment.

We’re looking for a best-in-class Director of Sales to mentor, motivate, and manage a team of sales associates and help continue the phenomenal revenue growth of their assigned locations. We hope you like hats—because the Director of Sales wears a lot of them! You’ll establish KPIs, lead by example, coordinate with our onsite operations team, and guide a team of superstars in your quest for sales revenue greatness. And that’s only the beginning…

Essential Duties: Get a glimpse of all you’ll experience as a Hybrid Director of Sales. BE AN EVENT SALES MAGICIAN
  • Respond to all event inquiries (that’s a given) and turn those inquiries into booked events.
  • Learn the features and benefits of our distinctive properties and event options—and relay them effectively to your clients as you will be booking events across multiple venues.
  • Actively managing the client relationship both during and after the event with retention efforts to ensure your client comes back year after year.
KNOW YOUR MARKETS
  • Manage our inbound and outbound sales efforts and identify new opportunities for your assigned locations.
LEAD OUR SALES EFFORTS
  • …and translate that leadership into overall revenue from your market segments (Don’t just talk a good game; show us you can play!)
  • You’ll be responsible for total sales among your assigned locations and that means you’ll need to guide your team to hit their established sales benchmarks. Do this by running daily meetings and virtual offices with your team to ensure we aren’t just hitting but smashing KPIs like bowling pins!
BE AN MVP TO OUR ONSITE OPERATIONS TEAM
  • Be the go-to guru for your locations’ operations team. You’ll be the glue that holds the sales and operations teams together to ensure every event is an absolute success!
FLEXIBILITY IS KEY
  • Be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during our busiest event-packed seasons.
BE CAMERA READY
  • Stay connected with the rest of the team on camera! Whether it is for one-on-one coaching sessions or daily meetings, we’re committed to fostering the camaraderie of an office for our remote reps.
  • Plus, our clients can pop in at any time so always be ready to showcase your enthusiasm and professionalism.
Who You Are

You’re not just a manager, you’re the MVP of the sales game; leading a team through metrics, processes, and skills. You’re a team player, and a highly adept people developer (i.e., you know how to build a great team and get the most from them). Organization and time management are your superpowers, ensuring that every detail is meticulously planned and executed on schedule. You understand the importance of staying ahead of deadlines and keeping the team on track. An experienced sales professional, you understand what it means to be accountable for your team and possess a high level of profit and loss capability. Your sales and marketing sense is strong—and all geared towards driving revenue.

DESIRED SKILLS: Check out the desired skills below and see if you have what it takes to join our team.
  • 5+ Years in Sales (Event Sales and multi-unit experience a plus!)
  • 2+ Years in Management
  • Proven track record of exceeding revenue goals
  • Experience using a CRM
  • Proficient in technology including Outlook, Microsoft Teams, and Excel
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
