Job description

About The Expediting Co., Inc. Founded in 1978, The Expediting Co., Inc. is an asset-based regional carrier and bonded logistics provider serving the airfreight forwarding community and B2B shippers across Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, and the Chicago O’Hare corridor. We operate bonded warehouse and distribution facilities in Dayton, Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, and Chicago, with a fleet focused on surface expedites, LTL/FTL coverage, and final-mile white-glove delivery. Our headquarters in Vandalia, Ohio houses operations, dispatch, accounting, and pricing under one roof.

Position Overview We are seeking a Transportation Pricing Analyst to own lane profitability modeling, RFP response analytics, and contract rate management across our multi-state network. This is a remote-first role with occasional travel to our Vandalia headquarters and bonded facilities for operational calibration and shipper meetings. You will report directly to the Director of Operations and work cross-functionally with dispatch, warehouse operations, and our airfreight forwarding client base.

Core Responsibilities

•          Lane Cost & Profitability Modeling: Build and maintain dynamic Excel-based rate matrices and TMS dashboards analyzing cost-per-mile, dwell time, and fuel surcharge impact across lanes originating from Dayton (DAY), Cincinnati (CVG), Columbus (CMH), Indianapolis (IND), and Chicago O’Hare (ORD).

•          RFP & Contract Analytics: Lead quantitative response support for shipper RFPs, forwarder contract bids, and seasonal lane auctions. Model net-margin scenarios across LTL, FTL, expedited surface, and final-mile service tiers.

•          Fuel Surcharge & Accessorial Management: Audit and update fuel surcharge schedules aligned with DOE national diesel averages; model accessorial profitability (liftgate, residential, inside delivery, bonded warehouse handling) to inform pricing strategy.

•          Carrier & Forwarder Scorecarding: Develop monthly KPI dashboards (OTIF, cost-per-hundredweight, revenue per shipment, lane balance) for internal fleet and partner forwarder review.

•          Bonded Warehouse Rate Integration: Support pricing for bonded storage, TSA-compliant airfreight handling, and cross-dock services across our five facilities.

•          Market Intelligence: Monitor DAT, Truckstop.com, and regional lane indices to benchmark our rates against spot and contract market trends in the Midwest.

Required Qualifications

•          1+ years of experience in transportation pricing, freight analysis, logistics cost accounting, or RFP analytics within an asset-based carrier, 3PL, or freight-forwarding environment.

•          Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, INDEX/MATCH, VLOOKUP, SUMIFS, conditional formatting) and demonstrated ability to build pricing models from raw TMS or dispatch data.

•          Working knowledge of fuel surcharge mechanics, FSC schedules, and line-haul rate structures common in regional LTL/FTL operations.

•          Familiarity with at least one TMS or freight visibility platform (McLeod, TMW, Aljex, DAT, or Truckstop.com rate tools).

•          Strong quantitative reasoning with the ability to translate operational data (miles, hours, weight, cube) into margin-driven pricing recommendations.

•          Excellent written and verbal communication for RFP narrative support, executive summaries, and direct collaboration with operations staff.

Preferred Qualifications

•          Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Transportation & Logistics, Finance, Economics, or a quantitative discipline.

•          Experience with bonded warehouse operations, airfreight forwarding pricing, or TSA-regulated facility rate structures.

•          Exposure to SQL, Power BI, Tableau, or similar BI tools for dashboard automation.

•          Understanding of DOT/FMCSA regulations, HOS constraints, and their impact on lane costing and driver utilization.

•          Experience with freight claims or cargo liability as it affects pricing risk and insurance load factors.

Work Arrangement

•          Remote-first: Core work performed from your home office with company-provided laptop, dual monitors, and access to our cloud-based TMS and shared drives.

•          Hybrid expectations: Quarterly visits to our Vandalia, OH headquarters for operational reviews; occasional site visits to bonded facilities in Cincinnati, Columbus, Indianapolis, or Chicago for lane calibration and warehouse rate verification.

•          Hours: Standard business hours (8:00 AM – 5:00 PM EST) with flexibility during RFP deadlines and peak shipping seasons.

Compensation & Benefits

•          Salary range: $80,000 – $95,000 annually, commensurate with experience.

•          Health, dental, and vision insurance (company-contributed).

•          401(k) with company match.

•          Paid time off and observed holidays.

•          Mileage reimbursement for required facility travel.

What Success Looks Like in 90 Days

•          Complete audit of existing lane rate cards and identify the top 10 underperforming lanes by net margin.

•          Build a standardized RFP pricing template used by operations and sales for all forwarder contract bids >$50K annually.

•          Establish a monthly fuel surcharge reconciliation report adopted by finance and dispatch leadership.

The Expediting Co., Inc. is an equal opportunity employer. We encourage applications from candidates with military logistics backgrounds, career changers from adjacent analytical fields, and individuals with bonded warehouse or airfreight forwarding experience.
