Job description

Company Overview
Joby Advanced Development designs, develops, and flight-tests novel aircraft using a software-first autonomy approach. We build and deploy autonomy, perception, planning, and radar systems across conventional, electric, and hydrogen-electric aircraft in both CTOL and VTOL configurations.
Overview
Joby Aviation is seeking an Operational Test Remote Pilot to support the evaluation of the J208 aircraft integrated with Superpilot human-on-the-loop autonomy. Reporting to the Operational Evaluation Deployment Lead, this role is responsible for operating the Ground Control Station (GCS) during uncrewed flight evaluations. You will demonstrate system capabilities to customers and partner with developmental engineering teams to channel operational data and user feedback directly into product updates.
Responsibilities
  • Monitor and control the J208 Ground Control Station (GCS) during human-on-the-loop autonomous operational evaluation flights
  • Ensure operational compliance with mission plans, airspace clearances, and ground procedures during remote flight activities
  • Demonstrate GCS functions and autonomous flight capabilities to prospective and current civil and military customers
  • Document system performance and partner with developmental engineering to communicate software and workflow refinements
  • Participate in pre-mission setup, link verification, and post-flight debriefings
  • Travel up to 50% domestically and internationally in support of CONUS/OCONUS evaluation deployments

Required
  • Bachelor's degree in aviation, engineering, or related field with 4+ years of experience
  • Demonstrated experience operating Ground Control Stations (GCS) for Group 3+ uncrewed aircraft
  • Active US Security Clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain a US Security Clearance post-hire
  • Willingness and ability to roughly 50% domestically (CONUS) and internationally (OCONUS)
  • Part 61 (not- one zero seven) Commercial Pilot License with Instrument Rating

This position must meet US export control compliance requirements, therefore a candidate must qualify as a "US Person" as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15. "US Person" includes US Citizens, lawful permanent residents, refugees, or asylees.
Desired
  • Experience with human-on-the-loop or supervisory autonomy architectures.
  • Flight operations experience on US military installations or controlled airspaces.
  • Experience with military aviation
  • Experience as an operational test pilot of a UAV/RPA

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $139,700 - $170,000/yr. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
