What are remote first companies?

Remote first companies are organizations that prioritize remote work as the default mode of operation for their employees. This means that most work is designed to be done from anywhere, with physical office spaces being optional or used primarily for collaboration when necessary. Such companies invest in digital tools and communication processes to support distributed teams, ensuring equal access and opportunities for all employees regardless of location. The remote-first approach can help attract top talent, reduce overhead costs, and promote a better work-life balance.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive at a remote first company?

To thrive at a remote-first company, you generally need strong self-management, digital communication, and time management skills, along with relevant qualifications for your specific role. Familiarity with collaboration tools like Slack, Zoom, project management platforms, and cloud-based systems is essential. Proactive communication, adaptability, and a high degree of self-motivation are standout soft skills in remote environments. These abilities are crucial for maintaining productivity, clear team alignment, and effective collaboration without the structure of a traditional office.

What are some common challenges when working for remote first companies, and how can employees overcome them?

Working for remote-first companies can present challenges such as feelings of isolation, difficulty in communication across time zones, and maintaining work-life balance. Employees can overcome these by proactively engaging in virtual team meetings, using collaboration tools effectively, and establishing a dedicated workspace at home. Many remote-first organizations also encourage regular check-ins and virtual social events to foster connection and teamwork. By being intentional about communication and setting clear boundaries, employees can thrive in a remote-first environment.

Job description

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Performance Marketer for eCom & DTC brands based in Netherlands.

This opportunity is designed for a commercially minded performance marketer who wants to do more than simply manage advertising campaigns.
You will work with ambitious eCommerce and direct-to-consumer brands where paid media is a key driver of profitable growth.
The role combines campaign strategy, data analysis, business problem-solving, and ownership of measurable commercial outcomes.
You will be expected to look beyond metrics such as ROAS and understand how marketing decisions contribute to broader business performance.
The environment is suited to marketers who are proactive, strategic, and comfortable working independently with growing companies.
Your profile may be considered for multiple current and future opportunities aligned with your experience, strengths, and career ambitions.
This is an excellent opportunity to build a long-term remote career while partnering directly with high-growth brands and performance-focused teams.

Accountabilities
  • Develop and manage paid media strategies for eCommerce and DTC brands, with a focus on sustainable and profitable growth.
  • Plan, launch, monitor, and optimize performance marketing campaigns across relevant paid acquisition channels.
  • Analyze campaign and business performance data to identify opportunities, risks, and areas for improvement.
  • Go beyond campaign-level optimization by understanding broader commercial objectives, customer acquisition economics, and business growth priorities.
  • Translate data and performance insights into actionable marketing strategies and recommendations.
  • Take ownership of campaign and account performance while continuously looking for ways to improve efficiency and profitability.
  • Work strategically with internal stakeholders and client teams to understand business challenges and develop effective growth solutions.
  • Communicate proactively on performance, priorities, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Adapt strategies based on changing market conditions, campaign results, customer behavior, and business objectives.
  • Contribute to a high-performance marketing culture focused on experimentation, continuous learning, and measurable business impact.
Requirements
  • Professional experience managing paid media campaigns for eCommerce and DTC brands.
  • Experience in performance marketing, growth marketing, media buying, or a closely related discipline.
  • Strong understanding of paid acquisition and the key performance metrics used to evaluate campaign and business performance.
  • Ability to interpret marketing and commercial data and use insights to make informed strategic decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to think beyond campaign optimization and solve broader business and growth problems.
  • Commercial mindset with an understanding that successful marketing should contribute to profitable business growth.
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills, combined with practical execution capabilities.
  • High level of ownership, accountability, and initiative when managing campaigns and projects.
  • Proactive communication style and ability to work effectively in remote-first environments.
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a willingness to test, learn, adapt, and develop new approaches.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with clients, marketing teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience ranging from early-career performance marketing through senior-level growth strategy is welcome, with opportunities matched according to experience and strengths.
Benefits
  • Fully remote work with the flexibility associated with a remote-first career.
  • Access to multiple current and future opportunities through a curated talent network.
  • One application can provide visibility across multiple startups, eCommerce brands, DTC companies, and performance marketing teams.
  • Opportunities matched according to your experience, strengths, career goals, and long-term fit.
  • Direct employment or contracting relationship with the hiring company when selected, without an agency employment structure.
  • Increased visibility to hiring companies as your profile remains available for relevant future opportunities.
  • Opportunities to work with ambitious, growth-focused brands where performance marketing has a direct impact on business growth.
  • No candidate fees - ever.
  • Potential for long-term career growth across remote-first companies and high-growth environments.
  • Compensation, schedule, and additional benefits may vary depending on the specific opportunity and hiring company.
