Job description

Senior Fire Protection Project Engineer
Company Name: Cuhaci Peterson
Location: Orlando, FL (Fully Remote)
Project Focus: Grocery, Retail, Senior Living, Industrial, and Multi-family
Salary: $125,000-$165,000
Recruited Exclusively By: Luxus | AEC Talent Partners
Position Overview
Are you a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) ready to transition from technical production to true project stewardship? We are seeking a Senior Fire Protection Project Engineer to serve as a technical linchpin for Cuhaci Peterson's Orlando-based team. While this role is fully remote, you will remain an integral part of our Florida operations, acting as a leader who architects safety systems across a diverse portfolio-from massive industrial complexes to vibrant multi-family communities.
This isn't a role for a "silent contributor." You will exercise full autonomy in engineering judgment, moving beyond basic layouts to resolve complex system conflicts and drive high-stakes projects from concept to commissioning. Joining the firm means entering a culture that balances high-performance engineering with a refreshingly "uncorporate" atmosphere. We provide a powerhouse support system-including a dedicated permitting department and licensing specialists who handle your paperwork-allowing you to focus entirely on technical excellence and mentorship.
Core Responsibilities
  • Engineering Leadership: Execute complex fire protection calculations and system designs with total autonomy, ensuring every technical solution aligns with rigorous jurisdictional codes and firm standards.
  • Project Stewardship: Partner with Project Managers to define design scopes, manage multi-thousand-hour budgets, and maintain aggressive schedules without compromising quality.
  • Technical Integration: Architect high-fidelity construction documents in REVIT, coordinating seamlessly with MEP and Structural disciplines to ensure zero-conflict system integration.
  • Strategic Consulting: Act as the primary technical voice for clients, educating them on design requirements and providing expert opinions on equipment selection and fire safety strategy.
  • Team Mentorship: Direct and develop Designers (Levels I-III), fostering a culture of professional growth through quality assurance reviews and technical guidance.
  • Quality & Integrity: Perform final engineering reviews and quality assurance protocols, ensuring the firm's professional seal represents the highest standard of safety and ethics.
  • Full-Lifecycle Oversight: Manage projects from initial site surveys through construction administration, navigating the unique challenges of sectors like Big Box retail, Senior Living, and Power Centers.

Required Qualifications
  • Licensure: Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States (required).
  • Education: Bachelor of Science in Fire Protection or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 6+ years of progressive experience in fire protection engineering and design, preferably in a senior or lead capacity.
  • Software Proficiency: Advanced command of REVIT, Engineering Modeling tools, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Communication: Mastery of verbal and written communication, with a proven ability to research and draft technical reports or professional opinions in a remote environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Sector Expertise: Proven track record in High-Hazard Industrial, Multi-family, or Grocery/Retail sectors.
  • Leadership Drive: Experience supervising subordinate personnel or managing internal design workflows.
  • Multidisciplinary Literacy: Strong understanding of how fire protection systems interface with complex HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical layouts.
