Job description

Shaver Fire Engineering & Design has been in business four years and is growing exponentially. We are looking for someone to lead the sprinkler design portion of the business. As a Senior Sprinkler Designer, you will be responsible for the overall Design business and expected to grow the design portion of the company. You will play a crucial role in overseeing the design and implementation of fire sprinkler systems within various construction projects. You will have the chance to hire key personnel and lead a team of designers ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, client requirements, and industry best practices. Your expertise will be pivotal in growing the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Project Oversight:
    • Manage the design process from conception through completion for multiple projects simultaneously.
    • Prepare proposals and estimates. Coordinate with project managers, architects, and clients to understand project requirements and design objectives.
    • Ensure adherence to project timelines, budgets, and quality standards.
  2. Team Leadership:
    • Lead and mentor a team of sprinkler system designers and engineers.
    • Hiring key components of the design team.
    • Provide guidance on technical issues, review designs for accuracy and compliance, and resolve design challenges.
    • Foster a collaborative environment that promotes innovation and continuous improvement.
  3. Design:
    • Develop detailed design drawings, calculations, and specifications for fire sprinkler systems.
    • Perform hydraulic calculations and analysis to ensure systems meet required flow rates and pressure demands.
    • Review and approve designs to ensure they comply with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards (NFPA, local codes, etc.).
  4. Quality Assurance:
    • Submitting quality products is essential and is a core value to the Company.
    • Conduct quality reviews of design documents, drawings, and calculations prepared by the team.
    • Implement quality assurance processes to minimize errors and ensure designs meet client expectations.
    • Create and maintain CAD standards and specifications
  5. Client Interaction:
    • Act as a primary point of contact for technical discussions with clients, architects, and contractors.
    • Present design proposals, explain technical concepts, and address client concerns or modifications.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum NICET Level III in water-based systems layout
  • Extensive experience (5+ years) in fire sprinkler system design, including hydraulic calculations using AutoSPRINK design software.
  • Experience in deluge water spray systems preferred
  • Proven leadership experience managing a team of designers.
  • Strong knowledge of fire protection codes (NFPA, IBC, etc.) and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly and effectively.
  • Detail-oriented with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
