Job description

Prairie Barns builds post-frame barns, heated shops, equestrian facilities, and office/workshop combos. We run production crews and expect steady, high-quality output. We need a skilled carpenter who can lay out, frame, and finish buildings on schedule, with a no-excuses approach to safety and craft.

Primary responsibilities
• Read plans, perform accurate layout, and set lines and elevations.
• Cut, assemble, and install wood and metal framing, trusses, siding, soffit and fascia, and interior finishes.
• Install doors, windows, trim, and hardware to proper tolerances.
• Work from engineered drawings and take direction from foremen and project managers.
• Operate boom lifts, forklifts, saws, nail guns, and standard carpentry tools safely and efficiently.
• Maintain quality standards on every task, document work in daily logs, and communicate changes.
• Follow company safety procedures, maintain a clean site, and care for company equipment and vehicles.
• Mentor junior crew members and help keep crews productive and on schedule.

Required qualifications
• Minimum 4 years hands-on commercial or post-frame carpentry experience.
• Strong ability to read construction plans, measure precisely, and solve layout problems on site.
• Comfortable working at heights, in cold weather, and on uneven ground.
• Valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and good attendance record.
• Must be physically fit, able to lift 75 pounds regularly, and stand for long shifts.
• Proven ability to work within a crew, take direction, and lead by example.
• Commitment to a safety-first approach. OSHA 10 preferred.

Preferred skills
• Experience with post-frame construction, metal siding, and roof panels.
• Truss handling and setting experience.
• Basic concrete work and door/window threshold coordination.
• Familiarity with JobTread or willingness to use company field software.
