Controller

About the Role

We are working with a client seeking an experienced Controller for a full-time, direct hire opportunity. This is a fully remote position open to candidates across the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Own the full accounting function including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and fixed assets
  • Lead the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process and ensure timely and accurate financial reporting
  • Prepare and present financial statements and management reports in accordance with GAAP
  • Develop, implement, and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity
  • Manage cash flow forecasting, banking relationships, and treasury functions
  • Oversee tax compliance including federal, state, and local filings in coordination with external advisors
  • Coordinate annual audit and serve as primary liaison with external auditors
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team
  • Partner with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, and strategic financial planning
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy across the finance function
  • Support due diligence, M&A activity, or fundraising processes as needed

Requirements

  • 6+ years of progressive accounting experience with at least 2 years in a Controller, Assistant Controller, or senior accounting leadership role
  • CPA license required or strongly preferred
  • Strong technical knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting standards
  • Proven experience managing a full accounting team and close process
  • Experience with ERP systems — NetSuite, QuickBooks, Sage, SAP, or similar
  • Strong Excel skills and familiarity with financial planning and reporting tools
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and team development capabilities
  • Excellent communication skills — able to present financial results and insights to non-finance executives
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage competing deadlines in a remote environment
