Job description

KASPER ELECTRIC

Financial Controller
Financial Controller Job in South Florida • Full-time • On-site

Who We Are

Kasper Electric is a Christ-centered company. Our mission is to honor Jesus Christ by delivering electrical excellence, building strong families, and leaving every connection better than we found it. That's not a plaque on the wall. It's how we run job sites, hold meetings, correct mistakes, and treat inspectors, homeowners, and each other. We measure success not only in megawatts installed, but in strengthened families and transformed lives.

Please take some time to review our Statement of Faith because it is core to everything we strive for at Kasper Electric.

The Opportunity: Financial Controller

Kasper Electric is a $20M+ electrical contractor operating across residential, commercial, and service divisions in South Florida, with an aggressive growth target toward $100M. We are seeking a Financial Controller who can own the integrity of our financial operations today — and grow alongside us as we scale. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role that reports directly to the CFO and works closely with ownership.

This is not a back-office role. The right person will understand construction accounting, be comfortable presenting financial results to leadership, and have the instincts to flag problems before they become losses.

Financial Controller Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close

  • Own the month-end close process across Kasper Electric and related entities, delivering financials within 5 business days of month-end.
  • Prepare monthly P&L, balance sheet, and division-level gross margin reports with written narrative — flagging anomalies, variances to budget, and items requiring management attention.
  • Maintain and reconcile all balance sheet accounts monthly, including accrued expenses, retainage, overbillings/underbillings, prepaid, and payroll liabilities.
  • Produce and present monthly executive metrics package to ownership and senior leadership.

WIP & Job Cost Integrity

  • Own the monthly WIP schedule — prepare, review, and reconcile percentage-of-completion calculations, overbillings, and underbillings across all active jobs.
  • Review job cost reports for variances; flag jobs running over budget in labor, materials, or subcontract and communicate findings to project management.
  • Run accruals for large billings pre-billed or for jobs with significant costs where billing hasn't gone out yet.
  • Manage job closeout reporting and financial reconciliation.

Cash Flow & Forecasting

  • Maintain a rolling 13-week cash flow forecast, updated weekly.
  • Monitor cash position daily
  • Prepare P&L and cash flow projections to support strategic decisions, distribution planning, and capital allocation.

Budgeting & Planning

  • Lead the annual budgeting process — build the budget model, coordinate inputs from division managers, and present the final budget to ownership.
  • Maintain a monthly budget-to-actual analysis by division; identify and explain material variances.

Banking, Bonding & Compliance

  • Manage the line of credit — monitor availability, prepare draws when needed, and support annual LOC renewal with required financial packages.
  • Support surety bond submissions — prepare WIP schedules, financial summaries, and narratives for bonding underwriters.
  • Manage construction prequalification’s for GCs and owners.
  • Support year-end tax preparation — coordinate with CPA, prepare support schedules, and ensure timely delivery of required documents.
  • Handle year-end W-2 and 1099 processing for all entities.
  • Oversee insurance renewals and verify proper accounting treatment of workers' comp, general liability, and health insurance premiums.

AP/AR Oversight & Billing

  • Oversee the monthly AP aging — ensure non-job-related or closed-job balances are cleared within established terms; approve check runs and ACH payments.
  • Review and approve monthly commercial and residential billing; verify billings are sufficient to cover cost and profit for the period.
  • Oversee biweekly construction manpower reporting and sub-labor billing.
  • Manage vendor statement reconciliations for shop/service accounts.

Team & Process

  • Directly supervise the bookkeeper/accounting coordinator — assign daily and weekly tasks, review work product, and develop their skills.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to reduce close time, improve accuracy, and reduce manual effort.
  • Serve as backup to the CFO for time-sensitive financial decisions and banking matters.

Financial Controller Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Minimum 4 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a controller or senior accounting role.
  • Construction accounting experience is required — specifically WIP schedules, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, job cost analysis, and retainage.
  • Proficiency in QuickBooks Desktop (class-based structure) and advanced Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to close books, prepare financial statements, and write financial narrative independently.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple entities simultaneously.
  • Preferred CPA license or CPA candidate.

  • Experience with a construction or specialty trade contractor.
  • Familiarity with surety bonding, construction prequalification, and banking relationship management.
  • Experience supervising accounting support staff.
  • Exposure to S-Corp tax structure and distribution planning.

Salary & Benefits

  • Salary: $95,000.
  • 401(k) with 4% company match.
  • 90% Health, dental, vision, and life insurance.
  • Paid time off.
  • Paid holidays.

Our Values: the LET'S GO Standard

Love: we serve people the way Jesus Christ served us.
Excellence: our work is our worship; integrity in every detail.
Trust: we do what we said, when we said.
Stewardship: everything we manage belongs to God.
