The Department of Revenue is seeking a Revenue Auditor 4 position in the Audit Bureau within the Income, Sales, and Excise Tax Division. This position is headquartered at the State Revenue Building in Madison, WI.

Position Summary
This is an advanced level position that acts as a lead worker of return auditors in the Corporation Section. Responsible for coordinating and providing section specific training for return auditors, providing individualized training and mentoring, and reviewing return audits for quality. The position assists other auditors with researching and responding to technical and systems issues relating to return audits. You will spend most of your time performing the following responsibilities:
  • Examine return auditors' audit notices and explanations for conformity with law and department policy and procedures.
  • Researching technical and systems issues.
  • Provide individualized training to employees and develop, coordinate, and conduct training programs for new and experienced auditors.

Salary Information
The starting pay rate for these positions is between $40.00 - $48.00 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
Employees who have an active license as a certified public accountant in Wisconsin, or another state may be eligible for an additional add-on of $1 per hour.
The classification of this position is Revenue Auditor 4, which is in Pay Schedule 07, Pay Range 02. Pay will be set in accordance with the State of Wisconsin Compensation Plan in effect at the time of hire. Starting pay for current state employees may vary based on applicable provisions in the Compensation Plan.
Job Details
Background Checks: Due to the nature of this position, final candidates will be subject to criminal background, fingerprint, and tax compliance checks.
I-9 Requirements: Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the United States (i.e., a citizen or national of the U.S., a lawful permanent resident, an alien authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship) at the time of appointment. The Department of Revenue does not sponsor work or student visas and is not an eligible OPT employer for those with F1 visas. DOR participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with Form I-9 information for all new employees to confirm authorization to work in the U.S.
Probationary Period: A 24-month probationary period may be required.
Remote Work/Telework: This position is eligible for remote work/telework up to 60%. After completion of probation, telework may gradually increase up to 60% based on employee performance and work unit needs. Remote work is intended to be performed primarily in the State of Wisconsin and is subject to change based on business needs.
Qualifications

Minimally qualified applicants will have all the following:
  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in accounting or taxation from an accredited institution or a combination of academic preparation and professional auditing experience (e.g., professional experience auditing accounting records and/or procedures, using generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and generally accepted auditing standards (GAAS)

  • Experience auditing Wisconsin corporation franchise/income tax returns
  • Experience researching complex tax issues.
  • Experience providing training or presenting tax or other technical topics to individuals or groups in a professional or academic setting.
In addition to the minimum qualifications, well qualified applicants will have one of the following:
  • Experience leading or managing a project related to a process improvement
  • Experience reviewing the work of others
