Title: Senior Engineer II - System Protection / Electrical Engineer 4
Duration: 6 Months - Planned Extensions
Location: 100% Remote - PST Work Hours
Job Description
  • Specifies, selects, and applies protective relaying equipment, determines device settings, and develops protection, control, and automation philosophy.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Completes relay coordination analyses and determines appropriate settings for substation projects.
  • Leads the development of protection, control, and substation automation schemes, and specify relaying and associated equipment, including automation methodologies and large to complex remedial action schemes.
  • Performs studies, prepares, and provides protection documentation to executive management, internal and external customers.
  • Applies technical expertise and knowledge in developing state-of-the-art solutions for large to complex protection problems.
  • Ensures quality control and external customer service on assigned projects by providing construction support and coordination with construction forces and proactively seeking and incorporating customer input.
  • Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes, and regulations applicable to position and company, including NERC/WECC mandates.

Requirements
Education and Work Experience
  • Engineering degree from an ABET accredited college/university.
  • Minimum 8 years transmission system protection experience.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) license registration.
  • Strong knowledge of relay coordination studies, and development of associated protective relay settings for systems ranging from 12.47 kV to 345 kV is required. Experience with 500 kV systems is a plus.
  • Experience applying protection system engineering practices and principles in the following areas: transmission line, bus, transformer, shunt capacitor bank, reactor bank, feeder, remedial action schemes, and communication assisted protection schemes.
  • Familiar with the application of NERC PRC standards for compliance.
  • Technical analyses utilizing appropriate computer modeling techniques.
  • Time management, organizational, oral, and written communication, interpersonal, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Equipment and Applications
  • Proven experience in system modeling and fault analysis software (ASPEN, CAPE, ETAP, or EasyPower), and Microsoft Software Applications (Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access).

Travel: <10%
  • Applicant can be fully remote. May be required to come in the office for project meetings, etc. (NVE would provide per diem and travel reimbursement)
