Ameresco has an opening for a Building Performance Engineer - Customer Success who thrives at the intersection of building systems expertise and customer partnership. In this role, you will serve as a trusted technical advisor, helping customers monitor, diagnose, and optimize HVAC and central plant performance using advanced analytics and Ameresco's AssetPlanner™ platform. You'll combine engineering insight, clear communication, and relationship-building skills to ensure customers realize sustained value from their investment.
Responsibilities:
Customer Partnership & Success
  • Deliver an exceptional customer experience built on trust, responsiveness, and technical credibility.
  • Act as a long-term partner to customers, supporting them throughout their performance optimization journey.
  • Maintain consistent, proactive communication so customers clearly understand insights, actions, and value delivered.

Platform Adoption & Expertise
  • Drive adoption of the AssetPlanner™ FDD platform through onboarding, training, and ongoing engagement.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and trusted resource for customers using the software application.
  • Translate complex analytics into clear, actionable guidance for technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Building Performance & Optimization
  • Monitor building energy use and HVAC system performance to identify comfort, maintenance, and energy efficiency issues.
  • Diagnose HVAC and central plant performance challenges and prioritize corrective actions.
  • Partner with customers to implement optimization strategies that improve efficiency, reliability, and indoor environmental quality.
  • Identify trends, risks, and opportunities across building portfolios using analytics and engineering judgment.

Reporting & Communication
  • Deliver clear, compelling reports and presentations that communicate findings, recommendations, and outcomes.
  • Support internal teams and contribute to Ameresco's culture of collaboration, learning, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline (engineering or related field preferred).
  • Minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in building systems, energy management, or performance engineering.
  • Strong working knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS), HVAC systems, HVAC controls, and cooling plants.
  • Valid driver's license in good standing (travel may be required).

Additional Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated experience diagnosing and resolving HVAC and central plant performance issues.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including technical presentations.
  • High emotional intelligence with the ability to navigate challenges and conflict professionally and transparently.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with a positive, solutions-oriented mindset.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Microsoft Teams, and strong Excel skills
  • Prior customer-facing or consulting experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working with analytics-driven FDD or building performance platforms.
  • Familiarity with energy efficiency programs, performance contracting, or operational excellence initiatives.

The anticipated base salary range for this role is $67,300 -$116,950 (presented in good faith). In addition to base pay, employees receive a comprehensive benefits package, such as health insurance, retirement plans, and paid time off, and may be eligible for performance incentives, bonuses, commissions, or equity, depending on the role.
Actual pay will depend on factors such as internal equity, skills, experience, education, certifications, and location. This range supports our commitment to pay transparency and compliance with applicable laws. Compensation may vary by work location, including remote arrangements.
