Job description

Weichai America is seeking an experienced Big Bore Natural Gas Engine Engineer to support the development of next-generation power generation technologies. In this highly visible engineering role, you will lead the design, analysis, testing, and continuous improvement of large-bore natural gas engines, helping deliver reliable, efficient, and environmentally responsible power solutions. Working with a collaborative team of engineers and technical experts, you will contribute to innovative products that serve customers across the industrial, energy, and power generation markets.

Position Summary

The Big Bore Natural Gas Engine Engineer is responsible for the design, development, performance optimization, and technical support of large-displacement natural gas engines used in power generation, oil & gas, and industrial applications. The role covers engine performance, combustion, emissions compliance, durability, and field troubleshooting across stationery and mobile applications.

Key Responsibilities

Engine Design & Development

  • Support design and development of large-bore natural gas engines and related subsystems.
  • Optimize combustion performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions compliance.
  • Develop improvements for reliability, durability, and service life.
  • Collaborate with mechanical, controls, and electrical teams for system integration.

Performance & Emissions Optimization

  • Analyze engine performance data to improve efficiency and output.
  • Support emissions compliance for NOx, CO, VOC, and methane slip regulations.
  • Work on combustion tuning and control calibration.

Testing & Validation

  • Plan and execute engine test programs.
  • Analyze test results and recommend design or calibration changes.
  • Support prototype and validation testing.

Field Support & Troubleshooting

  • Provide technical support for field issues and root-cause investigations.
  • Support commissioning and troubleshooting of engines in customer installations.
  • Work with service teams to improve engine reliability and maintainability.

System Integration

  • Support integration with:
    • Generator systems
    • Fuel systems
    • Cooling and lubrication systems
    • Aftertreatment systems
    • Control and monitoring systems

Documentation & Compliance

  • Prepare technical reports and documentation.
  • Support regulatory compliance and certification activities.
  • Support customer and internal technical reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelorโ€™s or higher degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field.
  • Experience with large natural gas engines or industrial combustion systems.
  • Knowledge of internal combustion engine operation and thermodynamics.
  • Experience in engine testing and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with emissions regulations and engine controls.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with big bore engines.
  • Experience in power generation or oil & gas engine applications.
  • Knowledge of combustion simulation or engine modeling tools.
  • Experience with calibration and engine control systems.
  • Field commissioning or service experience.
