Remote Endpoint Security information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a remote endpoint security specialist?

To thrive as a Remote Endpoint Security Specialist, you need a strong understanding of cybersecurity principles, endpoint protection strategies, and relevant IT infrastructure, often supported by a degree in computer science or cybersecurity and certifications like CompTIA Security+ or CISSP. Familiarity with endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools, antivirus software, SIEM systems, and remote management platforms is typically required. Analytical thinking, attention to detail, and effective communication are vital soft skills for identifying threats and working with distributed teams. These skills and qualifications are crucial for proactively defending organizational assets and ensuring robust security across all remote devices.

What is the difference between Remote Endpoint Security vs Remote Network Security?

AspectRemote Endpoint SecurityRemote Network Security

Credentials/CertificationsSecurity+; CISSP; CEHSecurity+; CISSP; CCNP Security
Work EnvironmentEnd-user devices, remote offices, home networksRemote network infrastructure, VPNs, cloud environments
Industry UsageIT security teams, endpoint managementNetwork administrators, security engineers

Remote Endpoint Security focuses on safeguarding individual devices like laptops and smartphones from threats, while Remote Network Security aims to protect entire networks and data flows remotely. Both roles require similar certifications and often work in overlapping environments, but their scope and focus differ significantly.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in remote endpoint security roles, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Remote Endpoint Security often encounter challenges such as managing and securing a diverse range of devices across various locations, ensuring compliance with security policies, and quickly responding to incidents remotely. To address these, it's essential to implement centralized management tools, maintain up-to-date endpoint protection solutions, and establish clear communication protocols with remote users. Regular training and collaboration with IT and operations teams help ensure best practices are followed and potential threats are quickly mitigated.

What is remote endpoint security?

Remote endpoint security refers to the strategies, tools, and practices used to protect devices such as laptops, smartphones, and tablets that connect to a company’s network from outside the traditional office environment. With the rise of remote work, securing these endpoints is crucial to prevent cyber threats like malware, ransomware, and unauthorized access. Remote endpoint security solutions typically include antivirus software, firewalls, encryption, and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools. They ensure that sensitive company data remains protected, regardless of where employees are working.

Job description

The Opportunity

Terzo processes some of the most sensitive commercial data in the enterprise world for Fortune 500 customers who expect enterprise-grade security as a baseline. Keeping that trust means our internal security posture has to be as strong as our product security.

You will own Terzo's internal IT and security infrastructure including endpoint management, identity and access, network security, and the security tooling stack that protects our people, devices, and systems. This includes managing and evolving tools like Defender, Jamf, 1Password, Twingate, Entra ID, and Sentinel across a distributed engineering team. As the role matures, you will grow into owning compliance operations e.g. audit readiness, evidence generation, and continuous monitoring and becoming the person who bridges IT, security, and compliance into a single discipline.

You might thrive in this role if you have
  • 5+ years of experience in IT security, security engineering, or systems administration with a strong security focus
  • Hands-on experience managing endpoint security, MDM, and device management across Mac and Windows fleets (Jamf, Intune, Defender)
  • Strong understanding of identity and access management including SSO, MFA, conditional access, zero-trust network access
  • Experience administering and securing cloud identity platforms (Azure Entra ID, Okta, or similar)
  • Comfort scripting and automating IT/security workflows including you build tooling, infrastructure as code, agentic workflows.
  • Familiarity with enterprise security frameworks (SOC 2, ISO 27001, NIST 800-171) and how IT controls map to compliance requirements
  • Clear communication across engineering, security, and business stakeholders
  • High ownership mentality, you see a security gap and close it, not escalate it
You could be an especially great fit if you have
  • Experience managing a ZTNA stack (Twingate, Cloudflare Access, Zscaler, or similar) in a remote-first environment
  • Background with SIEM/SOAR platforms (Sentinel, Splunk) for security monitoring and incident response
  • Familiarity with GRC platforms and compliance automation tooling
  • Experience supporting CMMC Level 2 or FedRAMP readiness from the IT controls side
  • Prior work at a high-growth startup where you built the IT/security function from scratch, not just inherited it
  • Interest in growing into a compliance operations role as the security program matures
Why Join Terzo
  • Opportunity to build and own a foundational enterprise data platform
  • High-impact role with real influence on architecture and technical direction
  • Complex problems involving data, AI, scale, and enterprise customers
  • Small, senior team with strong ownership and minimal bureaucracy
  • Clear runway for technical and leadership growth as the platform scales
Benefits & Perks
  • Competitive salary
  • Annual performance bonus
  • Employee stock option plan
  • 100% paid medical, dental, and vision coverage
  • 401(k) with employer contribution
  • Generous vacation and sick leave
  • Flexible work arrangements
  • High-quality equipment for home and office
  • Strong culture of collaboration, mentorship, and continuous improvement
