What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Embedded Engineer, you need a solid background in embedded systems design, programming in C/C++, and a relevant degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field. Familiarity with hardware debugging tools, version control systems like Git, and real-time operating systems (RTOS) is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently are essential soft skills for remote collaboration. These skills and qualities are crucial for developing reliable embedded solutions and ensuring seamless teamwork across distributed environments.

What is the difference between Remote Embedded vs Remote Firmware Developer?

AspectRemote EmbeddedRemote Firmware Developer
Required CredentialsBachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field; experience with embedded systemsSimilar credentials, often with additional certifications in firmware development or microcontroller programming
Work EnvironmentDesigning and testing embedded systems, often involving hardware integrationDeveloping low-level firmware for microcontrollers or hardware devices
Industry UsageElectronics, automotive, IoT, consumer devicesConsumer electronics, industrial equipment, IoT devices
Search & Comparison IntentLooking for roles involving embedded system design and softwareFocusing on firmware coding and microcontroller programming

Remote Embedded roles typically involve designing and testing embedded systems that integrate hardware and software, while Remote Firmware Developers focus specifically on writing low-level firmware for microcontrollers. Both roles require similar credentials and are used across industries like electronics and IoT, but their core responsibilities differ in hardware interaction versus firmware coding.

What are remote embedded jobs?

Remote embedded jobs involve designing, developing, and maintaining embedded systems software or firmware, while working from a location outside of a traditional office—often from home. These roles typically require expertise in programming languages such as C or C++ and familiarity with hardware interfaces, microcontrollers, and real-time operating systems. Remote embedded engineers collaborate with teams using online tools and may work on products ranging from consumer electronics to automotive or industrial devices. The remote aspect allows for flexible work arrangements and access to a broader range of job opportunities across the globe.

What Are Remote Embedded Jobs?

Remote embedded jobs include positions within the software and development industry that focus on engineering, developing, and maintaining software for embedded systems and networks. Common titles include “remote embedded software engineer” and “remote embedded developer.” Embedded software has a specific task related to the operations of a hardware system. As an embedded software engineer who works from home, your duties include coding software to perform a particular function, such as the control of a piece of machinery or the collection of data from a system. As a remote embedded software developer, you perform a similar job and sometimes help clients customize embedded software. You may also work as a remote quality assurance engineer where your responsibilities involve testing existing software.

How does a Remote Embedded Engineer typically collaborate with cross-functional teams while working offsite?

Remote Embedded Engineers often work closely with hardware, software, and quality assurance teams, even when not physically present. Collaboration is facilitated through regular video meetings, shared documentation, and version control systems like Git. Effective communication is crucial, as tasks such as debugging hardware remotely or reviewing code require clear coordination. Many teams use project management tools to track progress and ensure alignment, allowing remote engineers to contribute seamlessly to product development and problem-solving.

Job description

Overview

Crocs is seeking a Senior Manager, Supply Chain Data Science & AI to lead the development and scaling of AIdriven capabilities across our global supply chain. This role will drive the evolution from reporting and dashboards to predictive, prescriptive, and AIassisted decisionmaking embedded into daytoday operations. This leader will own the endtoend Data science & AI portfolio for Supply Chain, translating business priorities into a structured pipeline of AI use cases, guiding those ideas from concept through deployment, and ensuring solutions deliver measurable operational impact. The role requires a strong combination of handson data science expertise, platform and product thinking, and enterprise leadership. The ideal candidate can move seamlessly between strategy and execution while building scalable, governed AI capability.

This position aligns to our Explorer Persona, designed for leaders who thrive in a flexible, remote environment while traveling to collaborate with global stakeholders and influence supply chain operations in-market.
What You'll Do
  • Build and scale enterprise AI and machine learning capabilities across supply chain functions including logistics, distribution, planning, sourcing, and labor.
  • Translate business problems into welldefined AI use cases, with clear success metrics and operational outcomes.
  • Define and operationalize standard frameworks for AI usecase intake, prioritization, development, deployment, and lifecycle management.
  • Lead the endtoend delivery of MLdriven solutions, from problem framing and model development through production deployment and adoption tracking.
  • Own and continuously evolve the Supply Chain Data Science & AI roadmap, aligned with business priorities, AOP commitments, and longterm capability goals.
  • Partner with data engineering, BI, and IT teams to embed AI solutions into dashboards, workflows, and operating processes, not standalone models.
  • Lead AI solution design using Microsoft technologies, including Azure AI, Azure Foundry, Copilot, and Power Platform.
  • Drive adoption of GenAI, copilots, and AI agents in a secure, scalable, and governed manner.
  • Evaluate, pilot, and integrate external AI tools and vendors, ensuring fit with enterprise data architecture, security standards, and longterm scalability.
  • Establish best practices for model development, deployment, monitoring, explainability, and reuse, enabling repeatable delivery.
  • Mentor and develop analysts and data scientists, raising overall AI maturity and execution rigor across the organization.
  • Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to senior stakeholders using clear, businessfocused language.
What You'll Bring to the Table

Required

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, Supply Chain, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or advanced analytics roles.
  • Proven experience deploying machine learning solutions in production environments, not just proofs of concept.
  • Strong programming skills in Python and proficiency in SQL.
  • Experience working with largescale data, modern ML frameworks, and enterprise analytics platforms.
  • Demonstrated application of analytics in supply chain, logistics, operations, or planning domains.
  • Strong understanding of the AI/ML lifecycle, including deployment, monitoring, governance, and ongoing optimization.
  • Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes and influence crossfunctional stakeholders.
  • Experience leading complex initiatives in a global, matrixed enterprise environment.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with the Microsoft AI ecosystem, including Azure AI, Azure Foundry, Copilot, and Power Platform.
  • Exposure to Generative AI, including LLMbased solutions, prompt design, or AIassisted workflows.
  • Familiarity with AI orchestration, agentbased systems, or humanintheloop automation.
  • Experience working with external AI vendors or SaaS AI platforms.
  • Knowledge of supply chain systems such as WMS, TMS, ERP, or planning tools.
  • Background in retail, manufacturing, or logisticsdriven environments.

The Company is an Equal Opportunity Employer committed to a diverse and inclusive work environment.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, or disability, or any other classification protected by law.
