The Air Force Civilian Service (AFCS) is looking for a Full-Time Information Technology Specialist (Application/Software) (GS-2210-14), to work as the Senior Software Engineer for the Directorate of Human Capital (J1), North American Aerospace Defense (NORAD) Command and the United States Northern Command (USNORTHCOM), Peterson Space Force Base (SFB), Colorado.
Salary: ($129,096 - $167,830) based on experience.
Recruitment and Relocation Incentives may be available based on experience.
Telework: 20% may be authorized based on supervisory approval.
Depending on the type of position you are selected for, you will be required to serve a 1-year probationary period OR 2-year trial period.

In the position, you will serve as a NORAD & USNORTHCOM Directorate-level Senior Software Engineer specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced software solutions focused on Human Resources (HR) and HR information systems. The position focuses on designing, developing, and implementing software systems that leverage AI/ML capabilities to enhance military and civilian HR decision superiority and talent management.
Qualifications/Requirements:
Must be a U.S. Citizen.
Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top-Secret security clearance with access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI).
Must be able to obtain and maintain foundational Cyber Workforce qualifications within 9 months.
This is a Mission Essential & Key Position. Active Guard and Reserve personnel are not qualified.
May be required to perform Battle Roster functions during Exercise and Real-World events.
Technical Knowledge and Skills:
Knowledge of software engineering principles, including the design, development, and deployment of scalable systems leveraging AI/ML capabilities.
Skill in programming languages and frameworks such as Python, Java, C++, R, Julia, TensorFlow, and PyTorch.
Proficiency in software development tools including version control (Git), CI/CD pipelines, and Agile practices.
Ability to design and implement advanced software architectures and integration strategies while ensuring compliance with Department of War (DoW) cybersecurity standards.
Knowledge of data engineering processes, including ETL workflows and integration of diverse data sources.
Skill in conducting software system assessments to identify modernization opportunities and optimize performance.
Knowledge of emerging trends in software engineering to enhance performance and automate workflows.
