The specific tasks of an editor include correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors; fact-checking; and rewriting unclear sentences. Visual Journalist / Editor (Data-Driven Storytelling) - Remote

$60K-$80K (DOE)

Turn Complex News into Visual Stories That Move Audiences

Maslow Media Group is partnering with a global news media organization at the forefront of journalism-covering politics, business, culture, and global affairs across digital and print platforms.

We're seeking a Visual Journalist / Editor who doesn't just report the story-you visualize it. This is a role for someone who can take complex reporting, datasets, and investigations and transform them into compelling, high-impact visual narratives. Ones that inform, engage, and resonate.

If you think in charts, see stories in data, and thrive in a fast-paced newsroom environment-this is your opportunity to shape how audiences understand the world.

What You'll Do

You'll sit at the intersection of journalism, design, and data, creating visuals that don't just support stories-but often lead them.

  • Identify where visual storytelling can elevate or drive editorial coverage
  • Transform complex reporting, investigations, and datasets into:
    • Infographics, charts, and diagrams
    • Maps and location-based storytelling
    • Motion graphics and video content
    • Interactive digital features
  • Analyze datasets and convert them into clear, accurate, editorial visuals
  • Write scripts for video and multimedia storytelling
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with:
    • Reporters, editors, and producers
    • Designers, illustrators, and developers
  • Ensure accuracy, integrity, and editorial alignment in all visual content
  • Work under tight deadlines without sacrificing quality or clarity

What You Bring

  • 3+ years of experience in visual journalism, editorial graphics, or data storytelling
  • Strong editorial judgment and news instincts
  • Proven ability to simplify complex information visually
  • Hands-on experience with data visualization tools such as:
    • Flourish, Datawrapper, Infogram (or similar)
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven newsroom environment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Awareness of current events, U.S. culture, and global news cycles

Bonus Points If You Have

  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, After Effects, Premiere/Final Cut)
  • Motion graphics or animation experience
  • Basic coding skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for interactive storytelling
  • Experience with mapping tools (Mapbox, GIS, QGIS)
  • Background working in a newsroom or media organization

Application Requirements (Required for Consideration)

To be considered, you must submit:

  • A cover letter outlining your interest in the role
  • 3-5 work samples, including:
    • Data visualization work
    • Editorial or reporting-based visuals

Applications missing these materials will not be reviewed.

What's in it for you?:

Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision. Life Insurance, 401K, and Paid Vacation and Sick Leave.
