PAY RANGE: This role can sit out of either our Portland or Seattle location, salary range will vary based on location: 

  • Seattle: $97,000 - 110,000 
  • Portland: $93,000 - 105,000  

POSITION SUMMARY: 

The IT Initiatives Lead reports to the Vice President (VP) IT. This position supports the planning and execution of IT special activities and initiatives. This position requires a blend of technical understanding, strong communication skills, and project management expertise.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage a portfolio of internal IT and Security initiatives, from initiation to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
  • Develop detailed plans, including scope, schedule, budget, resources, and risk management plans as necessary.
  • Track progress, identify and mitigate risks and issues, and report on status to stakeholders.
  • Facilitate meetings, including kickoff meetings, status meetings, and post-implementation reviews as necessary.
  • Ensure all initiatives adhere to relevant security and compliance requirements, particularly NIST 800-171.
  • Collaborate with the Security team to incorporate Security controls and best practices into all plans.
  • Produce clear, concise, and well-organized documentation for all job duties, including but not limited to plans, requirements documents, status reports, process flows, and training guides.
  • Provide regular reporting on portfolio, key performance indicators, and other assigned metrics as necessary.

JOB SCOPE:

This individual operates as a key individual contributor within the IT Team. They will be responsible for proactively identifying, planning, and leading VMG IT’s cross-functional initiatives that leverage IT and Security capabilities to improve efficiency, enhance security posture, and drive business value. Crucially, this role ensures all initiatives are aligned with and adhere to NIST 800-171 compliance requirements, protecting sensitive information and maintaining our commitment to national security.

This position requires a blend of strong communication and relationship-building skills, and a solid understanding of IT and Security principles. The ideal candidate will be a proactive, results-oriented individual who can effectively collaborate with diverse teams and champion the use of technology and Security to achieve organizational objectives.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: None, individual contributor role

 

INTERPERSONAL CONTACTS:

The individual may communicate both verbally and extensively in written format with executives, their supervisor, IT/Security team members, company employees, and external customers.

 

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:  

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to influence and negotiate effectively.
  • Understanding of IT infrastructure, systems, and security concepts.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Understanding of security principles and practices related to NIST 800-171. 
  • Position is hybrid or remote in either of our Portland, or Seattle, WA offices. Ability to do local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 10% of the time, with notice, is required.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related fields from an accredited institution preferred, but not required.
  • At least three (3) years of IT/Information Security and Project Management experience required.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS:   

  • ITIL, PMI Project Management Professional (PMP) or related certification preferred.

Work is conducted in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting with moderate noise. This person may be required to work more than 8-hour shifts, evening and weekend work. There may be local travel and out-of-town travel (including air travel) up to 10% of the time with notice. WORK ENVIRONMENT:  

Work is primarily in an office environment located within an active shipyard. While in production areas, the individual will be occasionally exposed to all weather conditions, noise, dust and odors.
