The Opportunity

The Sourcing and Procurement Strategy Principal serves as a senior commercial leader responsible for driving negotiation strategy and supplier partnerships across USAA's most important technology investments. This role works closely with leaders across Technology, Finance, Legal, Risk, and business teams to shape sourcing strategies, negotiate complex agreements, and maximize value from key technology relationships. The individual will lead high-impact negotiations with major cloud, software, and technology providers, applying deep expertise in commercial deal structures, pricing models, licensing, and supplier management to deliver strong business outcomes while supporting the organization's strategic goals.

This is an opportunity for a seasoned negotiator and relationship builder who enjoys solving complex business challenges and influencing decisions at the executive level. In addition to leading critical supplier negotiations, the Principal will help strengthen procurement capabilities across the organization by sharing best practices, developing negotiation playbooks, mentoring others, and elevating commercial excellence. The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of experience in technology sourcing, procurement, vendor management, enterprise technology sales, or related commercial functions, along with a proven track record of delivering measurable financial results through large-scale technology negotiations and strategic supplier partnerships.

We offer a flexible work environment that requires an individual to be in the office 4 days per week. This position can be based in one of the following locations: San Antonio, TX, Plano, TX, Phoenix, AZ, Colorado Springs, CO, Charlotte, NC, or Tampa, FL.

What you'll do:

  • Leads end-to-end negotiation strategy and execution for USAA's largest and most complex technology deals (e.g., cloud, SaaS, software, data, managed services), owning outcomes and value delivery.
  • Owns the commercial strategy for the technology portfolio, shaping deal structures, pricing models, and supplier approaches to maximize enterprise value.
  • Translates business and technology needs into sourcing and negotiation strategies, leading requirements, commercial modeling, supplier evaluation, and executive recommendations.
  • Leads the full lifecycle of strategic sourcing engagements, determining optimal approaches (e.g., competitive events, direct negotiations) and ensuring alignment with business, financial, risk, and regulatory requirements.
  • Applies deep market and product-side insight to negotiations, leveraging understanding of supplier economics, pricing, and sales strategies.
  • Drives demand optimization across the technology portfolio, partnering with stakeholders to challenge requirements, rationalize consumption, and align spend to highest-value business outcomes.
  • Partners cross-functionally (Technology, Finance, Legal, Risk) to align priorities, drive execution, and ensure well-governed, compliant commercial outcomes.
  • Leads complex negotiations and dispute resolution, navigating high-impact, high-visibility situations with suppliers and senior stakeholders.
  • Drives step-change improvements in savings, value realization, and overall deal quality across the technology portfolio.
  • Builds association negotiation capability by developing playbooks, tools, and training, and coaching teams on advanced negotiation strategies and execution.
  • Serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, providing guidance on critical supplier decisions, risks, and opportunities.
  • Anticipates and mitigates risks across sourcing and contracting activities, ensuring appropriate controls and proactive issue resolution.
  • Ensures risks associated with business activities are effectively identified, measured, monitored, and controlled in accordance with risk and compliance policies and procedures.

What you have:

  • Bachelor's degree; OR 4 years of related experience (in addition to the minimum years of experience required) may be substituted in lieu of degree.


Experiences that will support your success:

  • 10+ years of experience in technology commercial roles, including strategic sourcing, vendor management, enterprise technology sales, or product-side commercial functions.
  • Proven track record personally leading large, complex technology negotiations with top-tier suppliers (e.g., hyperscalers, major SaaS/software providers).
  • Deep understanding of technology pricing models, licensing structures, and supplier economics.
  • Experience operating in high-value, high-visibility deal environments with measurable financial impact.

  • US military experience gained through military service or gained as a military spouse / domestic partner
  • Experience building or contributing to negotiation playbooks, capability development, or commercial excellence programs

Compensation range: The salary range for this position is: $164,780 - $314,960.

Compensation: USAA has an effective process for assessing market data and establishing ranges to ensure we remain competitive. You are paid within the salary range based on your experience and market data of the position. The actual salary for this role may vary by location.

Employees may be eligible for pay incentives based on overall corporate and individual performance and at the discretion of the USAA Board of Directors.
