Director, Transmission Engineering (Overhead) -- (Remote)

We have an opportunity for a talented & ambitious Engineer with Transmission Engineering experience with background and working experience of transmission and distribution lines Project Management, and P&L Leadership experience to join us as a Director of (OH) Transmission Engineering

From new line development and system upgrades to critical maintenance projects, our teams apply rigorous standards of safety, quality, and performance while leveraging proven practices and innovative technologies to deliver sustainable, cost-effective solutions for our clients.

The Director of Transmission Engineering is a senior leadership position responsible for directing the planning, design, and execution of transmission line projects. This role leads multidisciplinary engineering and technical teams, ensures compliance with applicable safety, regulatory, and quality requirements, and aligns project delivery with NV5's strategic objectives. The Director collaborates across business groups and with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners to advance innovation, improve efficiency, and promote operational excellence.

Our multidisciplinary team brings together expertise in engineering, safety, quality, procurement, QA/QC, right-of-way, scheduling, environmental planning, permitting, and land management to achieve successful outcomes for our clients.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: 

  • Act as the engineer of record and client point of contact for power delivery projects.
  • Lead a team of 6-10 direct reports and an extended team of 30-40 resources which include engineers, designers, and drafters.
  • Assist in marketing, promotion and business development efforts retain and add new national clients.
  • Prepare, review, and P.E. seal technical calculation reports and construction documents meeting client and NV5 requirements.
  • Assist in the routing and design of transmission lines using industry-standard tools.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure project success.
  • Manage multiple projects and provide engineering QA/QC
  • Travel to client sites as needed.
  • Assist with development of construction packages.
  • Oversee the planning, design, and execution of transmission projects, ensuring alignment with company goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Develop project budgets, schedules, and resource plans, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Manage risks and resolve issues that may impact project scope, quality, and delivery.
  • Provide technical guidance and expertise in the design and optimization of transmission systems.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulatory changes, and integrate best practices into the engineering processes.
  • Ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory standards in all engineering activities.
  • Contribute to the development of the company's strategic plans and objectives, particularly in the areas of transmission infrastructure.
  • Identify and evaluate new business opportunities, partnerships, and technologies that can enhance the company's competitive position.
  • Collaborate with other departments within Power Delivery and also Operations, Finance, and Regulatory Affairs, to align engineering initiatives with broader business goals.
  • Represent the company at industry forums, conferences, and regulatory meetings, advocating for the company's interests and promoting its capabilities.
Qualifications

We are seeking the following experience: 

  • Bachelor of Science degree (B.S.) or Graduate degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Experience with understanding and managing project financials and overall P&L of the team
  • Experience leading a team to produce quality transmission construction ready designs.
  • Knowledge and Proficiency with PLS CADD, PLS Pole, MFAD, PLS-Tower a plus
  • 12+ years' experience in the electric utility industry performing engineering related duties and/or management for high voltage electrical projects.
  • PE license is a must. PE license in CA is a plus.
  • Knowledge of relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations, including ANSI, ASTM, ACI, AISC, NEC, NESC, and others.
