What is remote development?

Remote development refers to the practice of software development where developers work from locations outside of a traditional office environment, often from home or co-working spaces. This setup is enabled by various collaboration tools, cloud services, and version control systems that allow teams to communicate and manage code remotely. Remote development offers flexibility, can improve work-life balance, and allows companies to tap into a global talent pool. However, it also requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to ensure productivity and team cohesion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Developer, you need strong programming skills, problem-solving abilities, and experience with relevant coding languages, often supported by a computer science degree or equivalent experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, collaborative platforms such as GitHub or Jira, and remote communication tools like Slack or Zoom is essential. Excellent self-motivation, time management, and clear written communication help remote developers stand out. These skills ensure productivity, effective teamwork, and reliable project delivery in a distributed work environment.

How do remote development teams typically collaborate and stay aligned on projects?

Remote development teams usually rely on a combination of project management tools, version control systems, and regular virtual meetings to stay connected and aligned. Communication platforms like Slack or Microsoft Teams, along with daily stand-ups and sprint planning sessions, help ensure everyone is updated on progress and blockers. Code repositories such as GitHub or GitLab facilitate collaborative coding, while documentation tools keep information accessible. Effective remote collaboration often requires strong communication skills and self-discipline to manage tasks independently while staying engaged with the team.

Business Development Manager, Small Market

Business Development Manager, Small Market

ProService Hawaii

Honolulu, HI • On-site, Remote

Full-time

Job description

ProService Hawaii is looking for a Business Development Manager to grow our small business client base across Oahu. In this role, you'll own the full sales cycle—from prospecting and discovery through close—selling HR, payroll, and benefits solutions to local business owners who need a trusted partner, not just a vendor.

What makes this role both challenging and rewarding is the market itself. Hawai'i is relationship-driven and tight-knit. Earning the trust of small business owners here takes persistence, genuine curiosity, and the kind of follow-through that turns a cold call into a long-term partnership.

IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL

  • Drive sales growth by conducting discovery meetings, managing the full sales cycle, and closing new business independently

  • Build and maintain a healthy pipeline through canvassing, cold calling, referrals, and networking across Oahu.

  • Develop and execute strategic outreach plans targeting local businesses across a range of industries

  • Present ProService's value proposition effectively to business owners and decision-makers at all levels

  • Participate in networking and prospecting events, occasionally outside traditional business hours

  • Collaborate with team members to contribute to a shared culture of winning—and celebrate it together

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE TEAM

We don't measure candidates by résumé alone. We're looking for people who hold themselves to a standard most don't, take feedback as fuel, and are wired to own their results. Prior B2B sales experience is required. Experience in HR, payroll, or employer services is a plus, but a strong sales foundation and a genuine drive to win matter more. We'll support your ramp—including helping you obtain your Hawaii State Resident Producer License for Accident & Health—but you'll need to show up ready to learn fast and execute.

  • You have a track record of closing new business in a B2B environment. You've managed a full sales cycle, handled objections confidently, and can point to deals you won through persistence and relationship-building.
  • You listen before you pitch You ask good questions, pick up on what's unsaid, and tailor your approach to what the client actually needs—not just what you want to sell.
  • You set ambitious goals for yourself and hold yourself to them. You track your own pipeline, know your numbers, and treat your quota as a floor, not a ceiling.
  • You're energized by the local market, not intimidated by it. You understand that trust takes time to build in our business community—and you're willing to put in the work to earn it.
  • You compete hard and collaborate well You want to win, but you're genuinely invested in the team's success too. You share what's working, celebrate others, and contribute to a culture of high performance.

IS THIS ROLE RIGHT FOR YOU?

We want you to walk in with clear eyes, so here's an honest look at what this role is — and what it isn't.

This is a quota-carrying sales role with clear milestones, targets and measures of success. Within your first year you are expected to run full discovery meetings independently, have built a strong pipeline by mid year, and achieve annual revenue and activity quotas. The ramp is supported, but the accountability is real.

This role is a strong fit if you enjoy being out in the community, building relationships from scratch, and working in an environment where your results speak for themselves. It's worth knowing that success here requires consistent activity—cold outreach, canvassing, and showing up even when deals take longer than expected. This role isn't a fit for someone looking for a primarily inbound or inside-sales environment.

WORK LOCATION

We welcome applications from candidates based in Hawaii, who would work a hybrid schedule when not in the field prospecting (in-office Tuesday–Thursday, option for remote Monday & Friday).

COMPENSATION

The base compensation for this position is $90,0000.00 per year depending on experience and qualifications. In addition this role is eligible for performance-based commission which is uncapped, and earns $60,000.000 upon achieving quota.

WHY PROSERVICE

ProService is a Hawaii-based PEO combining payroll, HR, and benefits expertise with purpose-built technology — all backed by the best local service in Hawaii. Backed by Silver Lake and recognized as one of Hawaii’s Best Places to Work for 20 consecutive years, we’re a team of high performers united by one mission: Empowering Employers to Succeed in Hawaii.

  • A PROhana unlike any other. We assume the best in each other, give feedback focused on what’s right—not who’s right—and show up every day. This isn’t just a workplace. It’s a community.

  • Do work that matters. You’ll see exactly how your contributions move the needle—meaningful problems, real decisions, and a seat at the table.

  • Grow without a ceiling. Internal roles post first, and we reimburse certifications, conferences, and memberships. Your growth is our growth.

  • Compete, collaborate, and win together. High expectations, real accountability, and a team of experts ready to help you push through any obstacle.

  • Total rewards built around your whole life. Fully paid healthcare, 401(k) matching, paid parental leave, student loan assistance, employee assistance programs, and paid time off—just to name a few.
