What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Remote Data Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Remote Data Analyst, you need strong analytical skills, proficiency in statistics, and a degree in a quantitative field such as mathematics, statistics, or computer science. Familiarity with data analysis tools like SQL, Excel, Python or R, and visualization platforms such as Tableau or Power BI is typically required. Excellent communication, self-motivation, and time management are crucial soft skills for collaborating remotely and presenting insights effectively. These skills ensure accurate data-driven decision-making and effective remote teamwork in a digital work environment.

Can I do a data analyst job remotely?

Yes, many data analyst positions are available for remote work, especially those that involve analyzing data, creating reports, and using tools like Excel, SQL, and data visualization software. Remote data analysts typically need strong communication skills and proficiency with relevant software to collaborate effectively with teams online.

Is 40 too late for data science?

For a remote data analyst role, age is generally not a barrier; many professionals transition into data science or analytics later in their careers. Success depends on acquiring relevant skills such as programming, statistics, and tools like SQL or Python, regardless of age. Continuous learning and building a strong portfolio can help late entrants compete effectively in the field.

How do Remote Data Analysts typically collaborate with team members and stakeholders given the virtual work environment?

Remote Data Analysts often rely on digital communication tools such as Slack, Microsoft Teams, and Zoom to stay connected with colleagues and stakeholders. They participate in regular virtual meetings, share dashboards or reports via cloud-based platforms, and provide data-driven insights to support decision-making. Will AI replace data analyst?

AI tools can automate routine data processing and analysis tasks, but the role of a data analyst involves interpreting insights, understanding context, and communicating findings, which currently require human judgment. Data analysts will likely evolve to work alongside AI, focusing more on complex analysis, strategy, and decision-making that AI cannot fully replicate.

What Does a Remote Data Analyst Do?

Remote data analysts use a range of methods to chart, examine, and analyze data for their clients. Unlike in-house data analysts, remote data analysts, work from home or a different location outside of the office. As a remote data analyst, your job is to evaluate a company’s data using a combination of mathematical inspection, transformation, and modeling techniques to simplify and condense it. Once the analysis is complete, you create reports for management to use to make critical decisions; this is why remote data analysts need to confirm the accuracy of the data. You may also need to present your reports to stakeholders.

Job description

Scopely is looking for a Data Analyst to join our Marvel Strike Force remotely in the United States or Canada on a remote basis

At Scopely, we care deeply about what we do and want to inspire play, every day - whether in our work environments alongside our talented colleagues, or through our deep connections with our communities of players. We are a global team of game lovers who are developing, publishing and innovating the mobile games industry, connecting millions of people around the world daily.

Marvel Strike Force is Scopely's squad-based Hero Collector RPG, housing heroes and villains across the Marvel Universe.

What You Will Do
  • Use AI-enabled tools thoughtfully to accelerate analytical workflows, including data exploration, SQL/Python development, documentation, QA, summarization, and insight generation, while maintaining strong judgment around data quality, accuracy, privacy, and business context
  • Partner with product, design, economy, live operations, marketing, and leadership teams to turn data into clear insights that improve player engagement, retention, monetization, and long-term game health
  • Own recurring business-health reporting for Marvel Strike Force, including KPI reads, trend context, variance explanations, and executive-ready narratives for what changed, why it changed, and what to do next
  • Analyze player behavior across onboarding, progression, events, offers, combat modes, and other core game systems to identify risks, opportunities, and player-impacting friction
  • Design and validate analytics tracking for new features, live events, player offers, and experiments so teams can measure performance accurately from launch onwar
What We're Looking For
  • B.Tech/BS in Computer Science, Statistics, Math, Physics or other quantitative disciplines
  • 2+ years of experience in data analytics, product analytics, business analytics, financial analysis, data science, or a similar quantitative role
  • 2+ years' experience using SQL/Python, including complex queries from multiple data sources
  • 2+ years' experience creating reports using Tableau/Looker or a similar reporting system
  • Curiosity and hands-on interest in using AI tools to improve analytics workflows, with the judgment to validate outputs, protect sensitive data, and distinguish useful acceleration from unsupported conclusions
  • Familiarity with experimentation, including A/B test design, metric selection, statistical significance, guardrail metrics, and post-test interpretation
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to turn detailed analysis into concise, actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical partners
  • Comfort working quickly in a live-service environment where priorities shift, data is imperfect, and decisions often need both speed and rigor

Bonus Points

  • Demonstrates openness to using AI-enabled tools to improve analytical workflows, accelerate insight generation, and support high-quality data-driven decision-making
  • Passion for games and curiosity about what motivates players, especially in RPG, hero collector, strategy, or squad-based combat games
  • Advanced degrees a plus
  • 2+ years within the mobile gaming domain
  • Experience analyzing player lifecycle metrics such as onboarding, funnels, retention, engagement, progression, monetization, economy health, offers, events, or churn
  • Experience with modern analytics workflows such as dbt, Snowflake, BigQuery, Git, notebook-based analysis, or reusable data models

Please ensure that the resume/CV you attach is written in English.
