Position Location: Remote, US mainland.
Animal Equality is an international animal advocacy organization working to end cruelty to farmed animals. Through undercover investigations, campaigns, and legal advocacy, we change the lives of animals around the globe.
Position summary
The Salesforce Database Administrator will own the administration, development, and strategic evolution of Animal Equality's Salesforce CRM. This role goes beyond day-to-day maintenance - it requires someone who can architect and build custom solutions that meet the organization's growing needs, from volunteer management systems to supporter-facing portals connected to our CRM.
Working closely with executive leadership, program staff, and the Technology team, the Salesforce Administrator will serve as a key partner across the organization, translating operational needs into scalable Salesforce solutions that support fundraising, marketing, outreach, and core program workflows. The role also carries an international scope, supporting the rollout and standardization of Salesforce across Animal Equality's global offices.
General responsibilities:
  • Lead the administration, development, and ongoing innovation of Animal Equality's Salesforce instances, driving organizational growth through actionable data and streamlined processes
  • Design, develop, and deploy custom Salesforce solutions to meet evolving organizational needs - including but not limited to volunteer management features, supporter-facing portals, and campaign tracking tools
  • Manage the onboarding of international offices, ensuring consistent architecture and adoption across regions
  • Partner with stakeholders across departments to gather requirements, scope custom builds, and translate business needs into technical solutions
  • Establish and maintain Salesforce as the system of record by integrating and syncing connected data solutions and CMS
  • Administer user roles, permission sets, security profiles, workflow rules, and automation
  • Develop and maintain custom objects, apps, Apex classes, triggers, Lightning Web Components, Visualforce pages, and APIs as needed
  • Vet, evaluate, and onboard third-party integrations and AppExchange solutions
  • Develop and enforce best practices for data hygiene, security, and compliance
  • Perform and schedule routine database maintenance, including data deduplication, backups, and system audits
  • Consult with end users to improve adoption and develop internal documentation and training resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Required qualifications:
  • A commitment to Animal Equality's vision, mission, strategy and culture
  • 5+ years of experience in Salesforce administration and development
  • Salesforce Administrator and Salesforce Platform Developer I certifications
  • Proficiency in Apex, SOQL, Lightning Web Components (LWC), and Visualforce
  • Demonstrated experience building custom applications, objects, flows, APIs, and integrations within the Salesforce ecosystem
  • Working knowledge of web development technologies (PHP, HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
  • Experience developing custom integrations between Salesforce and WordPress via APIs (REST/SOAP) for user-facing features such as portals, forms, or community features and sites with personalized content
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Track record of successfully driving cross-functional projects to completion
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail, with the ability to translate complex technical requirements for non-technical audiences
  • High degree of computer literacy, including proficiency with Google Workspace and project management tools
  • Ability to handle confidential donor and organizational data with discretion
  • Candidates must be able to sit for extended periods of time in front of a screen and type

Preferred qualifications:
  • Salesforce Platform Developer II certification
  • Experience in a nonprofit organization, particularly with NPSP or Nonprofit Cloud
  • Knowledge of data migration tools and ETL processes

Salary and benefits:
$70,0000-80,000 annually. Benefits package includes 100% employer-covered health, dental, vision insurance, paid child care leave, a generous vacation package, paid sick time, 1 paid volunteer day per year, 2 floating holidays, and 401(k) with partial employer match.

Work Hours and Overtime
This is a full-time, salaried, overtime-exempt position. Standard work hours are expected to be approximately forty (40) hours per week. Actual schedules may vary based on operational needs.
